INTERVENTION IN THE WATER SECTOR

Within his first week in office, Governor Ishaku released funds o the Taraba State Water Supply Agency with a stern directive that Jalingo, the state capital had been without water for 10 months and that taps must begin to run. In matter of days all equipment have been refurbished and taps are running today.

In the area of rural water supply, Governor Ishaku has sunk numerous bore holes in the following locations, Pampetel, Gwahir, Garin Sule, Makurna, Madachi, Bashau, Mishali, Bashin, Jalingo Main Motor Park and Mechanic Village.

Meeting between the Governor and Africa Development Bank, AfDB officials is paying off greatly with the expansion of water pipelines currently on-going.

INTERVENTION IN THE POWER SECTOR

On assumption of office, His Excellency, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku lamented the Megawatts supply to Jalingo from the national grid. As former Minister of Power, he engaged Officials of the PHCN and the Yola Electricity Distribution Company to increase Megawatts. The request was immediately granted as Jalingo today enjoys 18 Megawatts of electricity.

A gigantic transformer is being installed to service the Wukari business district with 7.5 Megawatts of electricity. Just as about 50 pieces of transformers have been made available by the Governor for different ward across the state.

His Excellency Governor Ishaku commissioned the Tunga Mini Hydro-electric dam executed in partnership between the state government, United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and the United Nations High Commission for refugee, UNIDO. Ishaku gave his best to the project when he was Minister of Power. This project is expected to provide gainful employment to the people within and around the Kakara community as small scale businesses such as phone charging, grinding machines, business centres, poultry incubators, etc can be powered. It’s indeed a RESCUE right in time for our teeming youths who grapple daily for limited job openings in the country.

To encourage closeness to our Creator, especially through prayers, 64 pilgrims were sponsored by government to Saudi Arabia for Hajj while food items were purchased for the Muslim Ummah across the 16 local governments in the state during the last Sallah celebrations.

Governor Ishaku’s meeting with traditional rulers and religious leaders to encourage peaceful co-existence has impacted positively as our brotherliness and sense of common purpose have been reinvigorated. He resuscitated the standing Local Government Security Committees which had hitherto gone comatose. The meetings have brought more sense of security to the grassroots.

The administration has renovated and furnished the Government Lodge in Takum to make it more functional for Very Important Personalities.

The sum of three hundred million naira (N300, 000, 000. 00) was released to PW Nigeria Limited to remobilize back to site on Bali-Serti-Gembu road. This is one project that has immense value to the state in boosting economic activities within that area. It is the gateway to the famous Gashaka Gumti National Park which is the largest games reserve in the whole of West Africa with its famous fauna and flora; the road also leads to Mambilla Plateau, home of the high quality Highland Tea, also the only tea plantation in West Africa, and of course, home to the famous Chappal Wadi mountain which stands at about 2,419metres above sea level, the highest point in Nigeria.

Consultations are in top gear to woo investors to Taraba state to ensure accelerated development in agricultural, mining, tourism and industrialization among others.

Rehabilitation of 6.5 kilometer Takum Township roads by TARCMA to complement the new bridges built and commissioned recently by General T.Y Danjuma (rtd).

Within the last 100 days, the state governor held peace and security meeting in Wukari and Takum to encourage peaceful and sustainable dialogue. The Wukari meeting, first of its kind by any sitting governor in the state. It brought our warring communities together and addressed many economic, social and security issues.

The Governor has improved the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state by curbing illegal logging and boosting the economic activities on the Mambilla Plateau with the rejuvenation of Mambilla Beverages Production Company and initiating means to put the state facilities in Abuja to proper commercial use.
