Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has solicited for the cooperation of traditional rulers to safeguard their communities from illegal logging of trees and mining.

He made the call yesterday when he received the Bali Community, who were led by the Bali Local Government Chairman Danladi Danfulani Suntai on an appreciation visit.

The Governor said the state government has established a company which would regulate the activities of miners to stop illegal mining in the state.

He said the recent cases of kidnapping along Bali axis may not be unrelated with the booming business of cutting down of the mandrin trees which are sold at exorbitant prices and are usually exported to China.

The Governor called on the Chief of Bakundi, Mohammadu Misa to hold periodic meetings with his community for harmonious and peaceful coexistence.

According to him, Taraba State is not covered by the North East committee on rehabilitation of the IDPs, the state government had written officially to the Chairman of the rehabilitation for consideration.
