Her Excellency, wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. (Mrs) Anna Darius Ishaku who was the Special Guest of Honor joins with her female colleagues at NUT hall today in Jalingo to mark the 2016 FIDA DAY celebration with the theme: The Role of FIDA in Socio-Economic And Political Development of the Nation”.

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (IFWL), in Spanish Federacion Internacionafidataraba2l de Abogadas (FIDA), is an International Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) that enhances the status of women and children by providing legal aid, legal literacy and education programs, and through advocacy, law reform, research and publications.

In her keynote address, Her Excellency Barr. Mrs Anna Ishaku stressed that FIDA is a Service Organization that offers professional and free legal services to the public and should therefore be pursued with passion and dedication as well as the readiness for financial sacrifice.

Barrister Hauwa Shekarau, the past Country Vice President (CVP) FIDA Nigeria in her paper presentation advised female lawyers to use their God- given potentials to promote the wellbeing of women and children.

FIDA’s responsibility is hinged mainly in promoting and protecting women and children’s right as their well-being depends on the strength of the society.

She also decried the participation and involvement of women in Governance, stating that the percentage is unacceptable though, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari had promised Nigerian women during his campaign to support women governance.

In her welcome address, the Chairperson, FIDA – Taraba State, Barrister Mrs Clara Gibon T. Katapsshowed her appreciation to Her Excellency for gracing the event.

She described Her Excellency as a vibrant and passionate FIDA member.

Barrister Clara added that FIDA – Taraba was conceived out of a desire to bring FIDA into the limelightso that her operations, activities and goals might be properly understood by the people for which she is responsible.

Also in attendance at the occasion were Chief Judge of the state who was represented by Justice Filibus Andetu and the Attorney General, Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Yusuf Nya Akirikwen.
