Taraba Governor Seeks Partnership with the CBN.

Taraba State Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has reiterated his government’s determination to vigorously seek for partnerships that will  be positive and geared towards repositioning the state economy as well as directly impact the lives of the people

Governor Ishaku stated this recently when he paid a courtesy visit to the Central Bank Governor in Abuja.

The visit by the Taraba State Governor to the apex banking institution of the country, CBN, was to show appreciation on the gains made by the state government from some programmes of the CBN and for financially supporting the states so as to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economy.

The visit was also aimed at exploring other avenues that the state can take advantage of and to further strengthen the working ties between the CBN and the state government for better future partnership in the years ahead.

The Governor maintained that CBN has greatly helped in  boosting the micro and small scale enterprises in the State through its loan scheme programmes.

Responding, the Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emiefele informed the visiting Governor that by June 2016, the Bank will partner with the state government in agriculture, particularly rice farming.

The CBN Governor maintained that Taraba state is agrarian in nature and the focus of the CBN is to assist states in the country that have vast and arable land suitable for rice farming, explaining that the intention is to reduce or at most stop the importation of rice into the country.

He lamented that large sums go into the importation of rice pointing out that time has come for the country to look inward and reinvigorate agriculture which is the only alternative to the country’s over dependence on oil.
Mr. Emiefele said Taraba State Government and the CBN will enjoy a cordial partnership which will be extended to harnessing the abundant natural resources in the state.
