Wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku, has stated that Women are meant to becelebrated on a daily basis as their roles are essential both in the home and in the society.
The wife of the Governor stated this today at the Dome Tent, Taraba Motel, Jalingo, during the 2016 Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, International Women’s Day Celebration themed:
“A Pledge For Gender Parity”.
According to her, setting aside a day to celebrate Women is an understatement, because the role of women can not be overemphasized, as they are primary caregivers to their children, transform houses into homes, take care of their husbands as well as impart the society.
Responding to the award presented to her by the State Women Committee, SWC, Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Her Excellency opined that, she does not feel she has done anything yet to deserve the award as there is still so much work to be done, adding that she will however hold it dearly and prove herself worthy of the award.
She further challenged the Women to rise up and strategize on ways to achieve equality as it would not be given to them on a platter of gold. She prayed for God to bless and help them achieve beyond their expectations.
Earlier in a welcome address, the State Chairperson, NLC, Taraba State Chapter, Comrade Peter Gambo appreciated the Governor’s wife for honouring the invitation, describing her as a woman of impact, who desires to see things done properly as well as see her husband succeed.
Stating that, there was no equality without input ability, Comr. Gambo, challenged the women to defeat every spirit of inferiority, suppression and setback as well as religious and traditional impediment, stressing he is optimistic that they are able and would succeed in their quest.
Also, in her address, the chairperson SWC, NLC, Comr. Glory Kachebri who described the day as one to celebrate mothers, daughters, sisters and wives, stated that they are instruments of nation building.
She welcomed her Excellency as the Special Guest as well as Chief Awardee of the occasion, stressing that the Governor and his wife assumed office after a hard fought democratic process, adding, the women are proud to share in the nobility of her Excellency’s maturity and peaceful disposition.
She further listed the benefits of the celebration to include improved quality of life for women around the world and increased access to education and health care, as well as realisation of professional opportunities.
During the presentation of the award, Mrs. Kachebri, described the Governor’s wife as ‘a working woman’ who has imparted the lives of Tarabans, especially women, making reference to the cancer awareness campaign and distribution of cancer test kits,through the Hope Afresh Foundation.The award was in recognition of her hard work and service to humanity.
