Taraba State Governor, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku has directed the State Commissioner of Works and Transport and the management of Taraba Road Construction and Maintenance Agency TARCMA to submit the lists of serviceable and non serviceable machines to his office for immediate consideration.
Governor Darius Ishaku gave the directive today when he paid a visit to the headquarters TARCMA to take stock of personnel and machines that are owned by the Agency.
The Governor who was impressed with the machines he met on ground stated that the Agency would be reinvigorated so as to be part of the rescue agenda with key emphasis on road construction and maintenance within the state.
He maintained that efforts would be made to reposition the agency so that it will meet the target and purpose for which it was established and to also work in consonance with the rescue mission of his administration.
Conducting the state Governor round the facilities and machines, the Commissioner of Works and Transport, Dr. Tafarki Agbadu Eneme and the Managing Director of TARCMA, Engineer Daniel Akaalia intimated the Governor on some of the problems faced by the Agency.
Engineer Akaalia said the Agency lacks enough heavy-duty machines in the performance of its statutory responsibility and solicited for more support so that it would be able to perform its mandate optimally.
Similarly, the Governor was at the Jalingo modern Abattoir, which is currently under construction to assess the level of work so far executed by the contracting firm and its consultant.
Governor Darius Ishaku was conducted round the project site by the project Manager, Gadi Zorto who told the Governor that the contract needs to be reviewed so as to hasten the pace of the job, explaining that the contract was awarded in 2010 and certain design were not taken into consideration.
The project manager maintained that considering the rate at which Jalingo is expanding, coupled with the present harsh economic realities, there is the need for upward review of the project so that it would meet the standard and the specification of a state capital.
Zorto said the initial contract sum was about four hundred million Naira out of which the company has been paid the sum of three hundred and twenty million and the remaining sum which he said stands at seventy-six million will not be enough to complete the remaining work.
While in his response, Governor Darius Ishaku said the work done is not commensurate with the money so far received by the company and task them to intensify efforts in their pace of work.
He stated that he will study the initial design with a view to effecting changes to the earlier design which he said when completed it may warrant a review so that the abattoir will befit the status of a state capital.
