Commissioner of Education RECEIVES Team Taraba After Clinching Second Position in Presidential Debate.

Taraba State has won the second place at the President Mohammed Buhari Democracy Day Celebration Championship Debate 2016 in Abuja from 24th to 29th May, 2016. The team was also voted as the most disciplined and friendly team of the competition.

The team is comprised of Smart Israel, Grace Caleb, Shariman Sunday, Friday Vakkai, Faith Agbo, team coach Hajiya Ishaku Dinatu, team Judge Patience Japheth and Team Manager Henry Mambiang. Team Taraba came first in the North east region and met champions of other geo political zones before reaching the final.

The trophy was formally presented to the Taraba State commissioner of Education, Johannes Jigeni, in his office today, where he expressed his gladness on the victory of the state.

According to the Commissioner, “The Rescue Team is working in Taraba”. He stated that Taraba State Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku has placed special emphasis on education evidenced by:

1. The completion of the new West African Examination Council (WAEC) office,
2. The payment of WAEC fees for exchange students,
3. The feeding of students in schools and
4. The payment of matching grants to State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as well as counterpart funds to UNICEF.

He therefore urged Tarabans to give peace a chance so that the government would provide development. The Commissioner disclosed to the victorious students that he had communicated with the Governor and was excited on the development and that a date will be set to specially present the trophy to the Governor. He then charged the team to “put more grease to their elbows”.

Earlier on in his speech, the Team Manager, Henry Mambiang stated that in spite of the financial challenges the team faced during preparation, before their departure to Abuja, the team was very determined and filled with zeal to bring honor to the great state Taraba.

Responding on behalf of the team, the lead speaker of team Taraba, Smart Israel, said it was a good fight and that it was the first time in ten years such a feat was achieved in the state. Israel, who spoke brilliantly to the admiration of guests, revealed that their competitors were more exposed than them, but due to their determination, they succeeded in meeting the Ebonyi State Team in the final. He therefore challenged the government to support them in order to do more exploits in the future.
