The Nigerian Military and other security agents, resident in Taraba State have been commended for working collaboratively with the Taraba State Government to ensure that peace is achieved in the state.

Chief of defence Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku made the commendation yesterday in Government House Jalingo when the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

He described the officers commanding both Serti and Takum as gallant military men that have been working very hard to ensure that peace is returned to the state.

Darius Ishaku also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff and his men for the wonderful jobs they are doing in the states ravaged by the activities of Boko Haram and added that his choice as the Chief of Army Staff was a right choice, saying  he has become Boko Haram’s nightmare.

He maintained that because of the sustained heat from his men, Boko Haram members are fleeing their hitherto stronghold to safer places like Taraba State and added that because of the harmonious working relationship that exists between Taraba State Government and the security operatives in the state, many of them have been identified and arrested.

He said there has been sustained efforts to ensure that Taraba State does not become a safe abode for the fleeing members of the sect.

Accordingly, the Governor informed the Chief of Army Staff that the major problem the state is faced with, is that of invading herdsmen that are heavily armed and unleashing mayhem in the state.

He categorised them into two, the indigenous herdsmen that will always pay for the damages done to farms by their cattle and the unknown invading herdsmen that kill mercilessly and disappears whenever there was resistance from farmers.

Governor Darius Ishaku lamented that another form of criminality which is prevalent in the state is that of cattle rustling and most tribes along the Benue valley are guilty of the crime, explaining that, all the tribes have formed themselves into syndicates to steal cattles of the Fulanis.

He revealed that the acts are being carried out along the Benue valley, bordering Benue, Nasarawa, Plateau and Taraba States with their hub in Tunga Village.

He however solicited for assistance from the Chief of Army Staff to deploy some of his men to be stationed at Akwana, in Wukari Local Government Area, a Police Barrack was built but  has not put to use despite writing repeatedly to the Inspector General of Police.

He advise soldiers take advantage of the Barrack to afford them the opportunity to effectively patrol the area which will help reduce cattle rustling around the Benue valley.

Darius Ishaku further informed the COAS that there is a Resort at Kashimbila Dam with an Airstrip with Beautiful scenery and urge him to take advantage of the facility whenever there is workshop for officers.

Earlier in his speech, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai said he is in Taraba State on a familiarisation tour of the two Army formations in the state to ensure that they are combat ready in the fight against insurgency within the region.

General Tukur Buratai however told Taraba State Governor that, he found it

expedient to come and appreciate him for the wonderful support has been giving to the commandants of the two formations in the state particularly in enhancing peace.

Military He described Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku as a good host and appreciated him for working in harmony with his men and prayed for the sustenance of the wonderful gesture and stressed that there is still much to be done most especially in fishing out Boko Haram members that have fled to Taraba because of the sustained heat on them in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states.

Lt. Gen. Buratai maintained that, restoring peace in the country is non negotiable and stated he is in the state to ensure that his men are combat ready and would be able to surmount any form of challenge arising from the insurgents and call on people of the state to support them by giving useful information that will help in the fight against insurgency.

He disclosed that troops have been drafted to go in search of the wild herdsmen and pleaded with the people of the state to always embrace dialogue which he said is the only viable road to peace and peaceful coexistence.
