The current warning strike action embarked by primary school teachers over the non-payment of four months salaries has elapsed today, 2nd June, 2016.Nigeria-Union-of-Teachers-NUTBut discussions are still going on between the union and government on how to amicably resolve the issue.

This was disclosed to our reporter by the State Secretary of the Union, Comrade Gilbert Tenense in his office today.

According to him, ‘His Excellency constituted a committee chaired by the Commissioner of Education. We met and discussed extensively and His Excellency would be briefed and he would invite us again’.

He added that they didn’t agree on ‘specifics’ in the meeting but that they advised the aggrieved teachers to exercise a lot of patience and that the government was ready to look into their problems.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Education, Johannes Jigem, disclosed that government has released money for payment of teachers’ salaries in the state.

Jigem made this assertion in a chat recently with our reporter  in his office.

He added that government was engaging the teachers already with the aim of resolving the matter.

Also, the Commssioner stated that a bill of quantity has been prepared for renovation of Schools in the state pending the availability of funds to execute the project.
