Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has donated a brand Toyota Hilux Van to support the Hard-To-Reach Project at Suntuwa settlement under Sumbu A Ward in Yorro local Area of the state.
Darius Ishaku made the donation today at the flagging off of the Hard-To-Reach Project which is being facilitated by the Taraba State Primary Healthcare Agency in Partnership with Canadian Government and UNICEF.
He has also provided a well furnished office accommodation in a bid to ensure that all inclusive health-care delivery services get to places that are hardly accessible and for it to succeed in the state.
He maintained that the Hard-To-Reach Project is a unique project which is aimed at reaching people that rarely benefit from such services.
The Governor appreciated the Canadian Government and UNICEF for supporting projects that take health-care services to the under served as well as vulnerable people in the remotest parts of the state.
Governor Darius Ishaku also commended the Ministry of Health and the state primary Health Care Development Agency for creating the enabling environment that the Canadian Government, UNICEF and other health partners are leveraging.
He reiterated his administration’s resolve to cooperate and support fully the Hard-To-Reach Project so that Tarabans will benefit maximally from such initiative and other Health related services that the state may benefit from in the near future.
Darius Ishaku said he was aware that since the project was conceived, they had worked assiduously to earmark over 350 villages that will benefit from the project, adding that about 430 Persons have already been recruited to ensure that the exercise succeeds at all levels.
Governor Darius Ishaku spoke more, ”About 350 settlements have so far been selected across the state for this exercise, this has also created job opportunities for about 430 Tarabans, they have already been recruited at different capacities, such as volunteer Ward supervisors, volunteer community mobilisers, cluster consultants, nurses and midwives, community extension workers, joint communities workers and medical doctors”.
“The Hard-To-Reach Project will provide basic integrated health services that includes among others, immunization, integrated childhood illness management, nutrition, Antenatal care, post natal care, community mobilisation etc, all these integrated services will be delivered at the doorsteps of households in the selected communities,” he stated.
Darius Ishaku maintained that the project is an indication that the rescue mission in the state is effective and said he was proud to be associated with the project.
He charged all Tarabans to show appreciation and accord maximum support for the project to succeed with particular appeal to communities that are opportuned to have been selected to give the facilitators all the desired assistance for them to carry out their jobs diligently in the best interest of the communities and the state at large.
Speaking earlier, the Taraba State Commissioner of Health, Dr.Innocent Vakkai disclosed that the focus of the project is eradicating Polio among under 5 and to combat all preventable child killer diseases through the provision of integrated healthcare services in the selected communities.
He stated that the State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with UNICEF under the supervision of the State Ministry of Health, worked intensively and collectively in building up the the Hard-To-Reach team which is the core implementor of the project
Dr. Vakkai appreciated the Canadian Government, UNICEF, World Health Organization, WHO, and other partners who have identified with the Rescue Mission of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, advising them to give Tarabans qualitative health care delivery services to reduce maternal infant mortality and morbidity in the state.
The Health Commissioner also said immediately after Flagg off, the trained Hard-To-Reach team members will move to their various places of posting to provide the required integrated Health services to the underserved and would be strictly supervised by the State Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure its success.
He revealed that the Canadian Government in partnership with UNICEF will be responsible for the supply of drugs and other materials for the period of one to two years that the project is expected to last.
Accordingly, Dr. Vakkai solicited for more assistance from the State Government in the areas of provision of a vehicle which would be used for monitoring and supervision, distribution of vaccines and drugs across the 16 Local Government Councils. He also solicited for the provision of additional furnished office accommodation for Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency and solicited for support from all the Royal fathers.
In his speech, the Chief Field Officer of UNICEF, Dr. Abdullai Kaikai appealed to the people of the state to take advantage of the uncommon opportunity provided by the Canadian Government in partnership with UNICEF to reach the unreached with qualitative health care services in selected communities within the state.
Dr. Abdullai said Taraba State Government under the leadership Arc. Darius Ishaku supported the intervention with 96 million Naira and stated that it is an indication that the present administration is poised to rescue the health sector and challenge the people of the state to support the rescue mission of the present Government.
The Field Officer also task the state government not to relent in keying into other interventions that would help better the lives of the people in the state in terms qualitative health services. He further commended the Taraba State Government for establishing the Taraba State Primary Health Care Development Agency and barking it with the desired law.
High points of the event was the flagging off of the HARD-TO-REACH project by Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, supported by his Deputy Governor Engr. Haruna Manu and his wife, Barr. Anna Ishaku, the unveiling and inspections of drugs and other Hard -To -Reach materials, the administration of Polio Vaccine and vitamin A Supplement by the Governor, Darius Ishaku, his Deputy, Haruna Manu and the wife of the Governor, Anna Ishaku.
Similarly, the wife of the state Governor, Barr. Anna Ishaku who is the founder of Hope Afresh foundation was presented with an award and christened with the title ” Face of Hard-To-Reach in Taraba State,” for her enormous contributions in reaching the unreached areas of the state.
Goodwill messages were received from WHO and the representative of the Royal fathers, the Chief of Ibi, Alh. Abubakar Salihu Bawuro lll, playlet by the Hard-To-Reach team as well as Mumuye cultural dance by the host community, Suntuwa village in Yorro local government area.
