To further mark its commitment to the Rescue Agenda, the Gov. Darius Ishaku’s led administration of Taraba State has taken a bold step to induct and train 168 Ward Contact Persons who will serve as informants for the Grassroots Monitoring and Revenue Generating Team.
The Chief of Staff to His Excellency, Hon. Rebo Usman stated this at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, Jalingo, during a one-day seminar held to sensitize the Ward Contact Persons about the importance of the task ahead of them.
According to the Chief of Staff, the Trainees will be the eyes and ears of the Governor at the grassroots and will provide the Government with information regarding peace and security, infrastructural facilities, revenue generation, robust engagement with rural populace for sustained development and economic empowerment as well as clear-cut policies aimed at good service delivery and promotion of feedback mechanisms.
The 168 Ward Contact Persons were carefully selected from the 168 wards to ensure top class service delivery to the people of Taraba State, as the Governor has resolved to set up machinery within the Government system that will closely monitor the implementation of his promises to the people of Taraba State.
The team shall also monitor implementation and impact of Government programs at the grassroots as they have been given the authority to oversee the affairs of revenue generation agencies in their wards, as well as the manifestation, promises made during the Governor’s campaign.
In his presentation, the Chairperson and Permanent Secretary, Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, Alh. Adamu Sani educated the Trainees on how to go about their duties as regards their supervisory role to revenue generation in their wards.
He advised them not to overstep their boundaries in a bid to carry out their activities as they were not meant to interfere with the revenue collector’s work rather than observe and report to the Senior Special Assistants in charge of tax collection manifesto implementation.
The event was attended by the Commissioner of Environment, Mrs. Rebecca Seember Manasseh, represented by the Director Planning Research and Statistics, Ministry of Environment Mr. Abraham Kweba Garba, and the Commissioner of Agriculture, Mr. David Ishaya Kassa, represented by Director Produce Services, Ministry of Agriculture Usman Yusuf Gadi.
Others in attendance were all Caretaker Chairmen of the Local Government Areas, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants to the Governor.
