Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku says his administration is determined to revolutionised the Taraba State University to make it compete favourably with other renowned Universities in the country.
The Governor stated this in Government House Jalingo, while receiving the report of a ten man visitation panel to the University set by his administration to look into all the processes of administration of the University and recommend to Government measures to be adopted to turnaround its fortunes for the enhancement of educational attainment.
Darius Ishaku told the ten man committee that he has passion to reinvigorate the system to make the State University vibrant, enviable and admirable by all and sundry not only in the North – East sub region but in the entire country.
Accordingly, the Governor stressed that concerted efforts will put in place using the report of the visitation panel to ensure that the State University answers a good name just like the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria through acquisition of acceptable certificates in all facets of academic spheres.
Darius Ishaku however, said the panel was set up with the utmost desire to have the best State owned University in the country, but regretted that some people misconceived the concept through myriad of complaints and unsubstantiated criticisms of his action.
The Governor thanked the panel for the report, assuring that the Government will carefully study it with a view to implementing the recommendations in order to perfect the State University as well as make it better to stand the test of time in this century and subsequently.
Earlier in his speech while presenting the report to the Governor, the Chairman of the visitation panel, Professor Abba Nasir of the Moddibbo Adama University Yola, said the panel was not a witch-hunt business as some people seem to believe, but that it was normal routine practice enshrined in the laws of Universities in the country whether Federal , State or private Universities to reposition the system for better performance.
Professor Bashir described the report as a true reflection of what is needed in the State University to put it on the right pedestal towards realizing the dreams of the founding fathers and the high expectations of the good people of Taraba State.
According to the Professor, some of the factors militating against proper standardization of the State University include, lack of academic planning division, ineffective physical planning unit, poor and lack of leadership in the University library as well as lack of dependable physical master plan to guide physical development in the institution.
He therefore urged the Governor to do something about the trend in order turnaround the fortunes of the University in the overall interest of development of the State.
