Principals in the education sector would be spared the rigours of having to purchase instructional materials in the open market as the Rescue Mission led by Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has provided them with records and instructional materials to enhance the learning process.

post primaryDuring the occasion held Thursday in Jalingo to distribute the materials, the Governor, Darius Ishaku, stated that the materials would aid in the learning process hence the reason for the provision of the learning materials.

The Governor who was represented by Secretary to the State Government, (SSG), Anthony Jellason, said there was a setback in the educational sector, and the administration had to restructure the sector for better results.

In his speech, the Commissioner of Education, Johannes Jigem, presented the scorecard of the Governor in the Ministry to include among others: The payment of WAEC fees for Exchange Schools in the State and Special Education Center in the State, termly transportation of Exchange students to the 19 northern states of the country, monthly subvention for feeding off Exchange schools and Special Education Center in the state, release and settlement of counterpart funding to UNICEF, release of matching- grant fund to TSUBEB.

Others include, presentation of Education Sector Plan and School Annual Census to the public in conjunction with UNICEF, sponsoring Taraba students for the Presidential Debate, Abuja 2016, in which Taraba came second in the Federation, sponsoring Taraba students for National Computer Competition, Abuja 2016, in which Taraba emerged second in the Federation and the Train- the- Trainers workshop proposal for Principals, Directors, Education Secretaries, Area Inspectors of Education, Zonal Monitoring Officers and Headmasters has been approved by the Governor.

However, Jigem called for support in certain areas to reposition education in line with the Rescue Agenda.

These include provision of additional teachers in public schools, renovation and provision of furniture in schools and provision of ICT Teachers in Schools.

He revealed that the Ministry of Education, Post Primary Schools Management Board and all secondary schools do not have any vehicle and that the staff used their personal vehicles to run their affairs.

The Commissioner observed that there are ineffective schools supervision and monitoring due to lack of vehicles.

He advised the Principals saying, “we must live by example as role models to others and our students to bring about human and economic development in the State as education is a critical veritable”.
