Rescue Watch

Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku today flagged off the Women and Youths Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Training, a brainchild of the Rescue Watch.

Governor Darius Ishaku who flagged off the handwork component at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, expressed delight in fulfilling on his electioneering campaign promises in the areas of economic empowerment and the provision of self-employment opportunities to the women and teeming youths of the State.

Represented by the Commissioners of Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Abba Akawu Zagga said the programme is timely considering the hardship that is being faced not only in the State but also throughout the country.

Abba Akawu Zagga maintained that the nine areas identified are areas that are very strategic in turning the fortunes of the people around by engaging them in vocations that would better their lives and that of their families and also contribute towards turning the economic fortunes of the State for the better.

He commended the Rescue Watch team for carefully selecting 336 participants across the 168 political wards of the State with two representatives from each political ward with Yangtu Development Area inclusive.

The Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Commissioner explained that the event is the climax of the flagging off programme which started last week in Zing, Wukari and Kurmi as respective centers for the three Geopolitical zones of the State, with Zing and Wukari as training centers for participants in traditional dress weaving while Kurmi is to benefit from soap making.

Explaining further, Abba Zagga stated that, those that will be trained in the arts of Carpentry, Computer Appreciation, Hair dressing, Shoe making, Tailoring, Welding and Woodcraft are to undergo their vocational training in Jalingo adding that most of the resource persons in these areas have their training centers in Jalingo and it would be difficult to move their machines across the three zones which necessitated the choice of Jalingo in the six vocations.

Accordingly, the participants that will undergo training in the six skills cutting across the three political zones will be trained in Jalingo owing to the fact that Jalingo Business School is involved and have most of the facilities needed for the training programme.

He used the opportunity to call on all the participants to be fully committed throughout the period of the training and appreciated the Rescue Watch team for the diligence in carrying out the task, stressing that this administration is determined to uplift the standard of living the people of the State, particularly those at the grassroots.

Similarly, the resource persons took the opportunity to encourage the participants to be dedicated and open to learning skills that will impact on them for the rest of their lives and make them better and productive persons in the society.
