The Chairman, Taraba State Independent Electoral Commission, TSIEC, Dr. Philip Duwe has attributed the success of the recently concluded local government election, held on the 25th of February, 2017 to the massive sensitisation embarked upon by the Commission.

Dr. Philip Duwe said this recently while fielding questions from Journalists on the peaceful conduct of the local government election, saying that, the Commission embarked on a wide range of consultations, which included the stakeholders, the non-governmental organizations, the Media and the traditional institution and with a resolve to do the right thing which will project the state in good light.

The TSIEC chairman maintained that, the Commission was resolute that all votes must count and people must be allowed to come out and exercise their franchise, stressing that, the early dispatch of election materials was carried out 72 hours before the election day to their respective destinations, beginning from local government to the ward levels and the polling units, with a strong warning to those trained to ensure that they operate within the ambit of the electoral law.

He said no human activity is perfect, explaining that only God is infallible and stated that power is transient, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.

He said the Commission relied on the consciences of the staff to guide them aright “so that we will be able to do what is acceptable to all Tarabans in order to project the state in good light and to uplift the status of states Independent electoral commission across the country”.

Speaking on the issue of the cancelled election in Ibi Local Government Area, Dr. Philip Duwe lamented that Ibi case was purely based on animosity and called on people of the state to always settle their grievances using the right channel and not to use election period to cause untold hardship to innocent citizens, appealing for consideration to issues that are not related to election.

The Chairman appreciated the people of the state for the incredible support accorded him, which he said it culminated into acceptable results across the state and assured that he would ensure that the processes in the future election would be conducted in a more transparent manner.
