Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has tasked the Kwararafa University new Governing council to work as a team to reposition the community University so that it would compete favourably with other Universities in the country.

Governor Darius Ishaku gave the charge today when the newly constituted Governing Council of Kwararafa University paid him a thank you visit to appreciate him for his support and also being physically present during the maiden convocation ceremony of the first community University in the country.

Darius Ishaku maintained that it is only through teamwork, focus and hard work that the community University would be effectively turned around, asserting that, Education is the bedrock of development that every society thrives on and told the new Governing Council of the Kwararafa University that Education is a priority in his administration.

He restated that he is working assiduously to reposition all the learning institutions in the state, adding that, a roadmap is being designed to provide a conducive learning environment for both teachers and students across the state particularly, the tertiary institutions.

The Governor stated that, Wukari is lucky to have three Universities in its domain and encouraged the people of Wukari to work towards galvanising the three institutions for the overall benefit of the people of the area and stressed that, the present team of the Governing Council are experienced persons and advised the Vice Chancellor to tap from their wealth of experience so that the institution would be a force to reckoned with in terms of learning.

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku who promised to assist the institution in linking it with Electricity, water and housing, however, encouraged the University to set up consultancy units to help strengthen the financial base of the institution.

Speaking on the plea to speak to General TY Danjuma Rtd to speed up the process of investing in the Kwararafa University, Darius Ishaku remarked that, TY Danjuma had said he is ready to invest in the institution if only the management would provide him with working document that is realistic and transparent to create the necessary partnership to make the institution vibrant.

He suggested to the New Governing Council to also look into the possibility of venturing into Agriculture, saying that, Wukari is a fertile ground for Agricultural activities, and urged them to take advantage of the agrarian nature of the area by tilting the focus of the institution towards harnessing such viable potentials that abound in the area, particularly, Rice and Yam farming, stressing that it will also help in generating revenue for the institution.

Darius Ishaku told them that when he took over as the Governor of the state, he inherited 25 moribund companies, but however said about five have already been revived and are now functional.
They include Mambila beverage company, Viva Feed Mills Zing, Taraba Gas, Baissa oil Mills and Taraba polythene company.

The Governor informed them that he has successfully completed the Taraba Greenhouse which has commenced production and that Dangote Group of Companies will soon establish a sugar processing company and commence sugar cane farming in the state, saying very soon Taraba state will join the league of sugar manufacturing states in the country.

He also revealed that the state will soon venture into mining, pointing out that the state is blessed with seven of the most rarest solid minerals in the world, pointing out that the opening of the airport will go a long way in making Taraba state the most favoured investment destination in Nigeria.
Governor Darius Ishaku assured the New Governing Council that his administration will accord them the desired support to succeed.

Earlier in his speech, the New Chairman of Kwararafa University, Dr. Julius Bala told Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku that they were in his office to appreciate him for the support and contribution he has been rendering to the Kwararafa University, since its inception to date, particularly during the maiden convocation ceremony of the community University.

Dr. Julius Bala said his contribution to the University has helped tremendously in its repositioning and  pledge their support and loyalty to his administration and used the forum to intimate him on some of the challenges faced by the school.

The New Chairman Kwararafa University enumerated some of the challenges to include, lack of water in the University, lack of capacity, lack of Electricity and housing for the staff of the institution and equally appreciated him for his support in the School’s ICT project, books donation among other numerous support he has rendered to the University.
He revealed that about ten of the courses of the institution have been accredited and said the institution is now poised to give it’s best in terms of giving out qualitative Education.

Dr. Julius Bala pleaded with the Governor to prevail on TY Danjuma to invest in the institution so that it would further strengthen its financial base so that it would compete favourably with other Universities in the country, saying that, partnering with TY Danjuma will assist the institution to attend greater heights academically.

The Chairman commended Governor Darius Ishaku for the wonderful work he is doing in the state, particularly, in roads construction, Education, health and Agriculture, human development and empowerment and encouraged him to do more so that the state can develop rapidly.

Accordingly, he commended Governor for opening up the airport, saying that, the airport will significantly impact positively on the lives of the people of the state in the areas of investments.

Dr. Julius Bala assured the Governor that the new team will work collaboratively with him so that Kwararafa University and indeed other Universities in the state would benefit.
The Governing Council presented an award to the Governor for his contribution to the Kwararafa University right from concept, design and other support too numerous to mention.
