In a bid to end the crisis in Sardauna Local Government Area, Taraba state Governor Darius Ishaku on Saturday convened an emergency stakeholders meeting with all the ethnic groups in the area with a view to sincerely find lasting peace that would enhance mutual trust and neighborliness in the Mambilla Plateau.
The meeting which was held at the Exco Chamber of Government House Jalingo lasted for several hours and was chaired by the state Governor Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku aimed at critically looking at the immediate and remote causes of the crisis in the area which has led to serious carnage and unimaginable destruction of both lives and property in the area.
Briefing Journalists after the meeting, Governor Darius Ishaku said the meeting was fruitful and meant to speed up the processes of genuine reconciliations and to that effect, two committees were set up to add up to the first one, which is headed by the state Deputy Governor Engr. Haruna Manu, each with a peculiar mandate in order to immediately end the hate and acrimony that has pervaded the people of the area.
The Governor revealed that, one of the committees which will be chaired by the Chief of Mambilla, Alh. Mohammad Baju with five representatives from the Mambilla and Fulani tribes while, Kaka, Kambu, Panso and Igbo will have one representative each and they are to holistically look at the issue at stake and make a lasting and germain recommendation to Government that would permanently end the Crisis.
While the other committee is the truth and reconciliation committee which will comprise of religious leaders from the two major religions, Christianity and Islam, elders of thought; they are to ensure genuine reconciliation among all the people of Mambilla Plateau that will solidly bring the people together to chart a common front that will promote mutual trust and enhance peaceful coexistence in the area.
Governor Darius Ishaku stated that Sardauna local government is not only strategic to the state, but to the entire country considering the enormous potentialities that abound in the area, particularly in the areas of Agriculture, tourism, mining and hydroelectric power station which is billed to commence by the end of the year and when completed it is expected to generate over 3000 megawatts of Electricity for the country.
The Governor maintained that, the meeting has become necessary and expedient considering the importance his administration attaches to peace and the repositioning of the state to be a virile ground for people to coexist in mutual harmony and contribute maximally to the growth and development of the state where all Tarabans would be proud of and have a say at all times.
He stressed that Government can only function effectively if there is peace and tranquility among the people which would eventually guarantee the provision of basic and key infrastructures, particularly, in catering for the basic needs of the people which revolve round qualitative Education, improved health delivery services and the protection of lives and property of the people of the state.
Accordingly, Governor Darius Ishaku mentioned that he was pained by the wanton loss of lives in Sardauna and appealed to the people to lay down their arms and assist Government with suggestions that would permanently end the crisis and promote mutual coexistence among all the tribes of the area.
The emergency meeting which was well attended by all the tribes in the Mambilla Plateau which included Mambilla stakeholders, Fulani stakeholders, Panso, Kaka and Kambu.
Also part of the meeting was the Military, Police, DSS, Civil Defense and top Government functionaries.
