Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku said his administration places optimum priority in the upliftment of health services in the State.

Governor Darius Ishaku stated this today at the Gymnasium Hall of Jolly Name stadium,  while flagging of the Save One Million Lives and the distribution of equipment, Hospital consumables and drugs to primary Health care facilities across the State.

Darius Ishaku reiterated his resolve to ensuring that the well being of the people in terms of giving qualitative health care service cutting across drugs, consumables and equipment, asserting that, health is cardinal to the success of the rescue mission in the state.

He stated that, he is in terndem with the popular coinage that, ‘health is wealth’ and challenged those in doubt of the saying, to take a tour around a hospital and find out for themselves and they would be convinced that health is really wealth.

Accordingly, he stressed that as the captain of the rescue mission, health will remain top in his lists of priorities by boosting the sector continuously, for without sound health life becomes empty and meaningless.

The Governor posited that his administration cannot afford to toy with the health of people and remarked that God entrusted all Tarabans to his care and he cannot afford to fail and asserted he will live up to his responsibility.

Darius Ishaku maintained that his administration has sunk so much in the health sector and will continue to do so until the people are totally emancipated from the shackles of diseases and backwardness so that they in turn can pray and support his administration to do more for the state.

He used the forum to sympathise with the people of Gembu and appealed to the people of state to pray for permanent peace to return to the area.

Early in address, the commissioner of Health Dr. Innocent Vakkai stated that Governor Darius Ishaku is passionate about the well being of the people of the state and added that, this is evident in Flagged off renovation of three hospitals across the state, Wukari, Bambur and Gembu and quickly added that, that of Gembu would have been flagged off if not for the the crisis that engulfed the area recently.

Dr. Innocent Vakkai maintained that the save one million lives programme will cover the renovations of hospitals, supply of drugs, engagement of health officers to man hospitals, purchase of vehicles and motor cycles, generators and cold boxes.

Also included, are Android phones, Baby showels, solar refrigerators, detergents, delivery kits and food seasoning among others.

He revealed that the programme is being supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and approved by his excellency, Governor Darius Ishaku, explaining that the state ministry drew up a programme to save one million lives and to compliment and improve maternal and child care services in the state.

Dr. Innocent Vakkai mentioned other components of the save one million lives to include, Pent 3, vitamin “A” supplementation, nutrition, utilization of insecticides treated nets, skills delivery, HIV testing and counselling and the use of contraceptive.

The Health Commissioner disclosed that the Save one million lives has also commenced the training of 330 health workers on vaccine management tools, 75 on prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV and AIDS at the Primary Care level, renovation of 32 primary health care centers across the 16 local councils and the training of 459 health workers on live saving scheme to improve quality of deliveries with provision of kits to pregnant women ante natal clinic in public health facilities as well as the training of 368 workers on the distribution of mosquito nets.

Other areas as listed by the commissioner as part of the commitment to primary health care under one roof PHCUDR, the save one million lives supported the state primary health care development agency SPHCDA with two hundred thousand dollars (200,000), the equivalent of sixty million Naira (60,0000), for the take off of NSHIP and PBE renovation of 33 PMTCT units in 33 health facilities which would soon take off, while 33 family planning are undergoing renovations in all the 16 LGAs.
Dr Innocent Vakkai remarked that all these were possible courtesy of the partbership with FMIH, WHO, UNICEF, NSTOP, NACA and the Governor’s commitment to repositioned the health sector and urged all to support the present administration to maximally transform the health sector across the state

In their goodwill messages, the representatives if Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Mai Yakubu and Umar Faruk commended the state government for keying to the programme of save one million lives and urged the people of the state to take advantage of the wonderful opportunity made possible by the state Governor, Darius Ishaku.

They both maintained that, the programme will greately enhance health service delivery in the state and assured the Governor that their organisations will continue to partner with the state for a better health service delivery to all the nooks and crannies of the state.

Dr. Okara and Dr. Faruk condoled the Government and people of the on the death of former Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai and late Sylvanus Yakubu Giwa and prayed God to grant them eternal rest

The climax of the event was the official commissioning and flagging off the programme by the state Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku, who distributed some of the materials to the beneficiaries, signalling the commencement of the programme in the state.
