Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku yesterday inaugurated two committees that will be saddled with the responsibilities of sensitizing and educating the people of the state on the workings of the Taraba state Open Grazing Prohibition and the Establishment of Ranches Law 2017, hence the need for both farmers and graziers to come to terms with the new law.

Darius Ishaku who Inaugurated the two committees in the Exco Chamber of the Government House Jalingo, stated that the two committees which have been saddled with task of enlightenment and sensitization preparatory to full take off of the implementation of Ranching practice in the state, pointed out that, it is part of the promise he made while signing  the Taraba state Open Grazing Prohibition and the Establishment of Ranches Law 2017, as a measure to end the incessant clashes between farmers and graziers in the state.

The Governor noted that the two committees which are the Farmers sensitization and Ranchers sensitization committees is aimed at building understanding and confidence in the minds of both farmers and cattle breeders and stressed that, in the course of the process which gave birth to the enactment of the law, cattle breeders have been largely misinformed by mischief makers who were bent on discrediting the good intention of the state government.

He explained that the two committees will function separately, which is the education of farmers and cattle breeders on the concept of the law as it affects them and the committees are expected to come together and compare notes for proper harmonization and report to Government on their findings which are expected to serve as a guide for Government in developing workable strategies for the implementation of the law in the state.

“I wish to appeal to the members of the two committees to view this assignment as a special call to duty by the Government and people of Taraba state. It is therefore expected of you to employ your wealth of experience and relationship with our farmers and cattle breeders to ensure that they come to terms with the revolution that is about to happen for the common good in the Agricultural sector.

“It will not be unexpected if you encounter any form of challenge or resistance in the course of this assignment, especially on the take-off, but I am confident that with your wealth of experience, you will be able to reach out to all the stakeholders by educating them and making them aware of the enormous social and economic benefits to them and the society,” he remarked.

Arc. Darius Ishaku used the forum to challenge elites, beckoning on them to join hands with Government and preach the gospel of Ranching and to educate farmers to embrace the cultivation of various rich grasses as a means of enhancing their economic status and posited that the prosperity of our people at the grassroots lies in the success of this law.

Responding on behalf of the two committees, the Chairman of the Ranchers Sensitization committee, who is also the Galadima Muri, Tukur Abba Tukur, appreciated the Taraba state Governor for finding them worthy out of the millions of Tarabans and bestowed on them the task of sensitizing both farmers and cattle breeders, and assured the Governor that the assignment will be carried out holistically.
