In an effort to correct boundary imbalance between Taraba and Benue states steming from flaws of the past that have ceaselessly put communities along the border lines against each other, Taraba state Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku and his Benue counterpart, Simon Ortom today embarked on a sensitisation campaign along the affected border areas.
The tour is aimed at sensitising the people along the border areas on the importance of living in peace with one another inspite of the dividing thin line that separates them.
In his speech, the Taraba state Governor, Darius Ishaku told the communities to continue to coexist peacefully just the way they have lived centuries before the border demarcation started, saying that with peace the two of them as Governors will put heads together with a view to giving them a meaningful livelihood.
Darius Ishaku maintained that without peace they can never experience development, saying that God brought the two of them as Governors of the two states inorder to enhance harmonious coexistence among them and solicited for cooperation so that the purpose of uniting the two states would be achieved.
In his contribution, the Benue state Governor, Dr. Simon Ortom told the border communities that the demarcation is basically for administrative convenience and they should see themselves as brothers and sister.
Simon Ortom stressed that, Taraba and Benue shares historical commonalities and urged them to embrace peace so that government will do its best by providing them with essential needs of life that will take away poverty from their communities.
The communities visited by the two Governors and their Deputies, who doubles as the chairmen of the boundary commissions of the two states, included Akwana, Arufu, Kente and Anyii and royal fathers from the two states, that of Taraba had the Aku Uka of Wukari, Dr. Shekarau Agyu Masaibi who is the chairman councils of chiefs Taraba state.
