Gov. Ishaku Signs N104.3bn 2018  Taraba Budget

Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku on Wednesday assented the over N104.3bn 2018 budget passed by the Taraba State House of Assembly.

The Governor had on December 21st, 2017 presented a budget estimate of over N96.597,789,380.00 to the State House of Assembly for consideration and approval. 

Speaking shortly after signing the budget into law,  Gov. Ishaku thanked the members of the State Assembly for painstakingly going through the budget and increasing it to over N104 billion.

He appreciated the cooperation of the House of Assembly with the Executive in improving the lives of Taraba people, saying such relationship was good for democracy.

The governor highlighted some of his achievements in agriculture, water supply, education, health and mining among others and pleaded with the people of the state to continue to live in peace with one another, without which he said the budget will not make meaning.

Speaker, Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Diah had earlier said the House increased the budget by over N2. 3 billion and included the approval of the third tranche of the Paris club refund of over N5 billion, jacking up the budget to N104, 232, 552, 706.50 billion.

According to him, the increase was done to address some important concerns and the yearnings of the people of the state, adding,”it is my hope that the budget will be implemented well for the good of the people” he said.

Our correspondent reports that the governor was presented with letters of nomination for the “Governor of the Year Award” by the editors of Vanguard and Daily Asset Newspapers. 

The Daily Asset award will be presented to the governor at an elaborate ceremony in Abuja at the Transcorp Hotel on February 27, while that of Vanguard will be done on April 14 at the EKO Hotels in Lagos.
