Governor Darius Ishaku has inaugurated the 3rd governing council of the Taraba state University. This was done at the Exco Chamber of Government House where the governor stressed the need to deemphasize all forms of sentiment and work collectively towards the repositioning of Taraba State University to make it comparable to other University in the Country and beyond.
The governor maintained that the tenure of the last Governing Council elapsed long ago but he was careful not to rush the reconstitution so as not to make the mistake of the past, hence the need to be thorough and make the right choice to bring capable people on board that will make the university vibrant and exemplary institution of higher learning that would be the pride of every Taraban.
The Governor emphasised that he holds the Taraba State University dear to his heart, asserting that, the institution should be used, as a centre that will emphasise on our collective unity in diversity and build a strong and virile institution that will be focused on the advancement of qualitative and skilled manpower development.
He said the task ahead of them is enormous and difficult and stressed that as academicians of high repute, he is optimistic that they will deliver and make Taraba State University a globally competitive learning institution and equally a conducive environment.
The Governor used the opportunity to appeal to the new Governing Council members that included; Professor Sa’ad Abubakar as the Chairman, Prof. Jacob Nyanganji, Mrs Agnes Bambala and Dr Anthony Barau to leave above board by critically looking at the fundamental issues of revamping the institution.
Darius Ishaku then stated thus; “You are aware that the Taraba state university was established to ensure unhindered access to quality tertiary education, to develop a critical mass of skilled manpower and instil the capacity for the independence of the nation.
“However, since the inception of the Taraba State University all shades of negative adjectives have been used to described the management, the Lecturers, the processes and procedures, the students, the group inter-relationship within the university,” he lamented.
He charged them to discharge their duties without fear or favour with the primary focus of repositioning the institution and assured them of the state Government support and commitment to ensure that the succeed in the task ahead.
Responding on behalf of the new Governing Council, the new Chairman of the Taraba State University Governing Council, Prof. Sa’ad Abubakar said they are determined to confront all challenges of the University with a view to holistically addressing them, maintaining that they will put in their best to ensure that the state University is repositioned for the best.
Sa’ad Abubakar told the Governor that the team is poised to fundamentally address the issue of fair representation of all the 16 local councils irrespective of gender tribe or faith, giving equal opportunity to all and added that the University belongs to all Tarabans that are desirous of learning.
The New Chairman maintained that equal opportunities will be given to all in order to ensure that Taraba State University becomes one of the best citadels of learning in the country and beyond and will also promote the recruitment of specialists in the fields of engineering, economics and technology so that it would become the envy of other institutions in the region.
He stated that they would work assiduously to improve on the internally generated revenue of the University in order to reduce over-dependence on the state Government for funding.
In an interview with the Vice-Chancellor of the Taraba State, Prof. Mohammed Yahaya Sani Bello commended the Taraba state Governor, Darius Ishaku for constituting the third Governing Council of the University and said it will strategically help the institution in taking decisions that will move the University forward.
Prof. Mohammed Sani Yahaya expressed optimism that with the calibre of people that the Governor has chosen to spearhead the repositioning of the institution, the sky will be the limit the Taraba State University.
