Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo is set to graduate 5,900 during her maiden convocation scheduled to hold this Saturday.
Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Vincent Tenebe disclosed this at a maiden convocation press briefing held at the University auditorium in Jalingo.
According to him, the 5,900 graduands were drawn from the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th graduate sets of the University since the establishment of the University ten years ago.
“Out of the number, 29 graduated with first class, 1006 second class upper division, 2083 second class lower, 1,850 with third class, while 32 graduated with passes.
“The university started with three faculties and we now have eight faculties with a student population of over 15,000.
“We have also within the past ten years established post graduate programmes and we now have over 100 staff of the University building their capacities in other universities in Nigeria and outside the country. So, with the 52 professors either permanent, visiting or those on sabbatical leave, we are poised to state our Ph.D programmes.
“We are the best state owned university in the North East and we are properly positioned to tackle the challenges of the present which are reflected in the courses we are offering in this university,” he said.
The VC thanked the visitor to the University, Governor Darius Ishaku and the people for their continued support to the university even as he appreciated the commitment of the academic and non academic staff of the University for maintaining high standard in the school.
