There was wide jubilation in Jalingo the state capital on Saturday as thousands of Jalingo residents came out in their numbers to welcome Rtd. Gen. TY Danjuma who is in the state to commission some township roads constructed by Governor, Darius Ishaku.
The jubilant crowd besieged the Magami quarters where most of the township roads were commissioned, making it difficult for the retired General, the governor and their entourage to leave the venue after commissioning the road projects. Speaking at the occasion, Governor Darius Ishaku said Magami which is a densely populated area was without basic infrastructure before his assumption of office.
He explained that his administration’s determination to restore the Jalingo master plan necessitated the construction of Jalingo township roads to give the state a befitting capital. “My administration is continuing with all other projects inherited from the previous administration, while we embark on new ones.
“These roads we are commissioning today are part of the new projects we have embarked upon. “We are doing other projects and opening up rural and urban roads to grant easy access for people within the towns and the rural areas,” he said.
He commended the contractor, M/S Wiz China World Wide Engineering Ltd, for delivering on a quality job and within a record time. Earlier, Commissioner for Works and Transport, Tafarki Agbadu said the 6.75km Magami road network was constructed using the best technology to ensure the quality of the project.
According to him, the administration also expanded the 6.5km Jalingo Kona dual carriageway, while work on the Bali Serti Gembu road was ongoing as well as the Mararaba -Pantisawa Wukari -Tsokundi and Takum Chanchanji road.
