Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Local Government Chairmen in Taraba on Thursday threw their weight behind the re-election bid of the State Governor,  Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku.

At a press conference in Jalingo, state ALGON Chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Agya who is also the Chairman of Kurmi Local Government, flanked by 15 other council Chairmen said they decided  to declared their total support for Governor Darius lshaku to enable him complete the good work he has started in the State.

Agya said the good works of the Governor in the past three years have endeared him to the vast majority of the people of Taraba who are already calling on the Governor to recontest in 2019 for the sustenance of peace and development of the State.

“As Chairmen of various councils in the State, we have received endorsement of the Governor from various groups at the grassroot and I am proud to announce that the support base of Governor Darius lshaku is awesome.

“We are only re-echoing the stance of the people as the closest elected representatives. The people of the State especially at the grassroot are pleased with the Governor’s peace initiatives and his developmental strides in the past three years and have decided to back him for a second term.

“We therefore call on all well meaning people of the State to support the Governor’s re-election bid to enable him consolidate on the gains so far achieved in the State for the good of all,” he said.

The Council Chairmen who vowed to ensure that all eligible voters in their localities are registered,  said they have taken a supervisory role in ensuring that every eligible voter is registered to garner support for the Governor and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the State.

“We are all living witnesses to the physical transformation in the State especially, the several road networks in Jalingo that have eased movement of people and goods and services as well as beautified and controlled the menace of erosion in those areas.

“You may wish to note that simultaneously, other road projects like the Wukari to Tsokundi and Mararraba Pantisawa are also ongoing in Local Government areas through the prudent management of scarce resources.

“The multiplier effect of these projects on the lives and economies of the areas and by extension the State and nation can be better imagined,” they said.

While frowning at the threat to security of lives and property in the State in the past few months, the chairmen condemned the killings in the State which they said were threatening the corporate existence of the people of the state who have lived together peacefully for a very long time.
They however, commended the Governor for his mature handling of the security situation in the State and for his commitment and unbiased approach in nipping in the bud several crisis in the State.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa thanked the Chairmen for the endorsement of the Governor and pledged to convey their support to him adding that he deserves a second term in office for his mature handling of State affairs.

“The Governor has embarked on people oriented projects empowering thousands of women and youths,  in addition to the transformation going on across the State. So, it is natural for people to identify with the best.

“As far as PDP is concerned, the Governorship  of Taraba is for southern Taraba and for Darius Ishaku. The Governor has done credibly well and is just normal that he should also spend 8 years like his predecessors.

“I want to thank you for seeing the need to declare your support for the reelection bid of DDI and I want to assure you that I will convey your message to the Governor, ” he said.
