Media Aide to the Governor, Bala Dan Abu, has said the allegation by the army that the Taraba State Government was inciting the people against soldiers involved in Operation Ayem Akpatuma is a blatant lie, aimed at covering the woeful failure that the operation turned out to be.
He said that the army should be honest enough to tell Nigerians that it failed in this very important national assignment. “It is unfortunate that the killings became more frequent, and had degenerated into an uncontrollable carnage while the operation lasted”.
“The military invaded the private homes of the indigenes, collected their cutlasses and kitchen knives and in some cases, their money but looked the other way while the herdsmen freely used their AK-47 guns to kill and maim innocent people”.
“It is not surprising that the army is making this allegation at this time”.
Bala noted that the National Assembly has just added its very weighty voice in the condemnation of the military for its dubious role in the killings by herdsmen in Taraba and some other states in the country and even went a step further to demand the sack of the service chiefs.
Certainly, the army is under pressure.
