Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba State has faulted the statement credited to President Mohammadu Buhari that Fulani herdsmen do not carry AK 47 rifles in the country.
He made this revelation in an interview with newsmen, shortly after he collected another distinguished award of excellence, this time from the Nigeria Medical Association in Abuja.
The Governor emphatically revealed that Fulani herdsmen have been recklessly killing people with AK 47 guns, destroying houses, farmlands and property in Taraba State and beyond.
He further stated that the ugly scenario has made his administration to invest more in security to enhance the protection of lives and property of the people, which is the primary responsibility of government at all levels.
Darius Ishaku maintained that despite the incessant clashes between Fulani herdsmen and farmers, his rescue team has remained focused and undeterred, designing policies and programs that would liberate the people from abject poverty.
The Governor stressed that “Peace remains the only practical pivot for the development of any given society and it requires that all hands be on deck for genuine peace to be restored in all parts of the country.”
It would be recalled that, President Muhammadu Buhari while on an official visit to President Donald Trump of America, said during a Press Conference that Fulani herdsmen only carry sticks and machetes to cut down foliages for animals and are not known for carrying AK 47 rifles.
