The Taraba State Governor, Darius  Ishaku has assured that the government will do its best to combat  mother to child HIV/Aids transmission in the State.

He stated this today in Jalingo while hosting the Director General of the National Agency for the Control of Aids, Dr. Sani Aliyu who is in the State on a courtesy visit.
According to Governor Ishaku, the HIV pandemic is not something to be toyed with hence his commitment to tackling the scourge through the release of funds to assist the agency in the fight to contain the spread of the disease.
He stressed that despite lean resources, the State Government will not toy with the well-being of the citizens.

He further assured Dr Sani that the State would.not relent in its counterpart funding and promised the immediate release of backlog of funds for which the Director-General had earlier appealed.

“I have heard your plea and I want to assure you that the backlog of funds you requested for will be released with immediate effect”, he noted.
Earlier, Dr Sani Aliyu thanked the Governor for meeting with them at short notice in spite of the exigencies of state affairs.
According to him,  he had come to the State to inform the Governor of the importance of government intervention in mother to child HIV transmission.
He stated that Taraba at the moment has over one hundred and fifty six thousand people living with the disease but only fifty six thousand of people living with the disease are on medication, a statistics he considered alarming.
“Taraba currently sits second among the states with the highest infection rate in the country. It is therefore our collective responsibility to work assiduously to tackle this pandemic”. He stated.

Similarly the Country Director of USAID,  Dr Erasmus Morah acknowledged the effort of the government in the provision of healthcare services and assured that the agency would continue to strengthen its ties with the government.

The Director-General was in the company of Dr. Miriam Ezekwe and Mrs. Josephine Kalu who are both directors in NACA.
The Deputy Governor Engr. Haruna Manu, Speaker Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abel Peter Diah, Secretary to the State Government Anthony Jellason Head of Service, Commissioners, Special Advisers and other top government functionaries were all present.
