Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku has demonstrated his administration’s support to the tune a Hundred Million Naira for the establishment of a rehabilitation centre at the Taraba State Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.

He made the pledge at the foundation laying ceremony of the centre which took place in Jalingo the State capital.

Governor Ishaku revealed that the spate of drugs and other related banned substances abuse was having devastating effect on the youths and the vulnerable in the State and stressed that his administration would do the needful to curb the menace.

“I have said it over time that my administration will not leave any stone unturned in ensuring citizens of Taraba enjoy sustainable health benefits. This Government is committed to meeting one of its cardinal objectives which is affordable health care services for all in the State”.

He assured that the Government would make the earmarked sum a part of his administration’s 2019 budget.

Earlier, wife of the Governor, Barrister Anna Ishaku the initiator of the project expressed her delight over the foundation laying ceremony and noted that establishing the centre was coming at a critical time when the productive years of the youths was wasting away due to substance abuse.

“It is quite disheartening to see the level of drug abuse in the State as it brings to mind the sad reminder that the earlier a facility is built to help in rehabilitation, the better for all. We see this initiative as a sense of commitment of the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba for the betterment of Tarabans.”

In the same vein, the Commissioner of Health, Dr Innocent Vakai noted that the rehabilitation centre will be of immense benefit to the State as the cost incurred for treatment in private facilities would be greatly subsidized.

Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Director of the Specialist Hospital, Dr Alex Maiangwa commended the wife of the Governor for the initiative and assured that the management of the hospital would work with the Foundation for efficient service delivery.
