The Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, on Saturday said they had beefed up security in Taraba State ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebration.

Police Public Relations Officer in Taraba ASP. David Missal told our correspondent that the command had just concluded an emergency conference where plans were mapped out to ensure adequate security of lives and property during and after the festive period.

He noted that the Commissioner of Police in Taraba, CP. David Akinremi had directed Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders to immediately deploy sufficient personnel during the period.

“We are going to deploy massive personnel on patrol on the high way as from Monday.

“During this period there is always increase in human and vehicular traffic and we are not leaving any stone unturned in ensuring safety of citizens.

“Our officers will also comb and raid criminal hideouts during the period to ensure that miscreants don’t take advantage of the festive period to harass citizens,” he said.

In the same vein, Mr. Godwin Peter, the Public Relations Officer of Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the State Commandant of the Corps Alhaji Isah Ado had directed the deployment of personnel across the State to ensure hitch free celebration.

“Normally during festive periods like this, we deploy personnel to ensure peaceful celebration.

“The Commandant has already directed the deployment of personnel to worship centers and public places for the safety of citizens.

He noted that the undercover personnel of the Corps would monitor situation across the State with a view to ensuring peace before, during and after the celebration.
