Governor Darius Ishaku has bemoaned the increasing level of kidnapping and criminal activities in some communities in Benue and Taraba States.

He made the pronouncement at a joint security meeting between the two States at the Conference Hall of the Federal University, Wukari.

He lamented that the spate of kidnapping has truncated economic activities in the crises prone communities and charged those involved to stop the retrogressive act in order to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Governor Ishaku challenged Traditional rulers to be proactive in identifying miscreants and criminal elements in their domain for prompt action.

On his part, Benue State of Governor, Samuel Ortom noted that the best time to stop the criminal actiand vities and kidnapping in Taraba and Benue States is now considering the synergy both governments have adopted for peace to thrive.

He emphasized that the Government of Taraba and Benue for the past two years have been working relentlessly to establish peace and thereby called on the people to support them.

Governor Ortom advised the Communities to be calm as Government is working on the demarcation of some communities in both States and added that the Jukuns who might later find themselves in Benue State would be given full rights as citizens of Benue as well as Tivs who find themselves in Taraba.

He maintained that the interest of the people must be reflected in the demarcation exercise after the draft from the technical committee comes through.

Stakeholders from both States and various security formations spoke at the meeting in the search for lasting peace.

The Governors agreed to grant amnesty to militants who surrender their arms by the end of January and promised to provide jobs for the youths in order to make them self reliant.

The meeting climaxed with a visit of both Governors to Sai, Abako in Katsina Ala Local Government Area of Benue State and Dogon Gawa in Takum Local Government Area of Taraba State where they both addressed the Jukun and Tiv communities to embrace peace.
