The Taraba State Police command on Thursday said they had deployed over 5000 personnel across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State ahead of Saturday’s Governorship and State Assembly Elections.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Taraba, ASP David Misal told our correspondent in a telephone interview that the police and other sister organizations were well prepared for the election.

While assuring the people of the State of the determination of the police and other security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the election on Saturday, Misal warned criminals and thugs not to meddle in election.

“We had a peaceful Presidential and National Assembly Elections last two weeks and we are poised to ensure a more peaceful election come Saturday, ” he said.

Though the commanding officer of the 20 Army Battalion Serti could not be reached at the time of filing this report, our correspondent gathered that over 700 army personnel had been deployed for the election in Taraba.

A source privy to the development said, the army personnel deployed for the election met with the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP. Alkasin Sanusi at the Police Command headquarters in Jalingo on Thursday morning and were adequately briefed on their roles on Saturday.

Also, the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC, in Taraba also said it had concluded arrangements for the elections in the State.

Public Relations Officer of the Commission, Mr. Fabian Yame, told journalists in Jalingo that all sensitive and non sensitive materials had been distributed to various Local Government Areas.

“We have completed all arrangements for Saturday’s election. All smart card readers for the election have been configured and ready for the election. We are equally prepared for any logistical challenge that may come up,” he assured.
