It has become once more necessary for the Government of Taraba State to invite you in order to address the continuing activities of mischief makers who are bent on creating misinformation and discord in our dear state.

The stock-in-trade of these mischief makers has been to spread rumours and falsehood with the main aim of creating division among the people of state concerning the absence of His Excellency, Arch. Darius Dickson Ishaku, who is presently in Abuja convulsing an injury sustained in an accident in his house.

Furthermore, this clique aims to create fear and anxiety in the minds of Tarabans and Nigerians in general. This is downright evil, depraved and immoral to the well being and progress of the people of the State.

While the majority of the people of the state have been showing understanding and sympathy for the Governor’s condition, with prayers being said at homes, public places and worship centres for quick recovery, this clique is bent on courting the breakdown of law and order by its evil machination.

We assure you that their malevolent action will not succeed. The reason is that the people of Taraba State are fully united behind the Governor and his government that is why a year ago they re-elected him with an overwhelming majority at the polls. In fact this is what informed the recent action by members of Taraba State House of Assembly to pass a vote of confidence on Governor Darius Ishaku.

It should be voted that it was this same compassion that informed Tarabans to join other Nigerians in prayers when President Muhammadu Buhari was admitted into a London hospital for about three months in 2017 over an undisclosed ailment. Every human being is susceptible to indisposition or falling sick. Governor Ishaku is no exception.

Therefore to gloat over someone’s misfortune to the extent of manipulating it for mischievous purposes, is the height of callousness and wickedness. We therefore find this repugnant and condemnable for those who are using the Governor’s absence as a means to score a cheap political point.

Also for those pseudo-constitutionalists among them citing Section 190 (1) of the Constitution (as amended) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (CFRN), is a gross display of ignorance of the interpretation of the provision of the Constitution. The threshold of that constitutional requirement is not remotely close; the Governor is neither on “vacation” nor is he in any way “incapacitated” to carry out the functions of his office.

It will be recalled that during the furore that greeted President Buhari’s recent London hospital visit in October 2019, the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole told the Press that Nigeria was “no longer in the era of Mungo Park”, and therefore the President could “work from any part of the world”.

The same refrain was made by the Presidency through the President’s Senior Special Assistant for National Assembly Matters, Babajide Omoworare, who was quoted by (November 7, 2019) as saying “President can rule from anywhere in the world.”

Why then would these partisan mischief-makers, who made excuses for the President for conducting state affairs across international boundaries, in a far away oversea country, turn around to attack the Taraba State Governor who is within his country and directing the affairs of the state without any hitch.

It is worthy to note that Governor Ishaku’s seven point agenda is being implemented without let or hindrance. For instance, the 2020 Budget is being implemented with vigour; infrastructural constructions are going on apace, social and welfare programmes are running smoothly; 300 staff have just been employed in the civil service; salaries and pensions are being paid as and when due etc. While in Abuja, the Governor has been making the rounds of foreign missions to continue discussions with investors and development partners. He also played a prominent role in the recent inaugural sensitization meeting of the Mambilla hydroelectric power project held at Transcorp Hotel which was presided by the Minister Power, Alhaji Sale Mamman. So also was his positive intervention in the PDP wards congresses which took place in the state last week, where he ensured that a level playing field was available to all party members.

By and large governance in the State is vibrant and Taraba is on the way to sustainable socio-economic development. Finally, while we assure our people that the Government will take every measure to continue to secure the peace, harmony and unity in the state, we solicit the support and cooperation. But these opposition elements will certainly fail in their insidious plans and activities because they do not enjoy the support of the overwhelming Tarabans who continue to stand solidly behind the Governor Darius Ishaku led government.
