Taraba State Governor, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku has called for fervent prayers from the Muslim Ummah to enable the country win the war against COVID-19.
Gov. Ishaku on behalf of himself, the government and the people of the state congratulated Muslims in the state on the auspicious occasion of Eid-el-Fitr.
In a statement released in Jalingo and signed by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan-Abu the Governor said Eid-el-Fitr which usually comes after one month of Ramadan fasting by the Muslim Ummah, stands out as an important event in the Muslim calendar.
He described Ramadan fasting as a period of self-discipline, sacrifice and empathy for Muslims and congratulated them for their successful participation.
This is even as he urged all Muslims who have successfully gone through the long period of self-denial not to allow the lessons that come always with their participation in it to elude them.
Gov. Ishaku expressed sympathy with the Muslim Ummah for this year’s Ramadan fast because of the difficulty they gone through because of the ravaging pandemic and the restriction of movements and other social activities.
“I commend your courage and steadfastness in the face of these difficulties and I urge all muslims to continue to pray for Allah’s intervention to heal the world of the pandemic.
“I want to assure Tarabans that my administration is ready and adequately equipped to protect the people against the Coronavirus infection and will do whatever is required to prevent the spread of the disease in the state.
“However, we must not forget to play our own part as critical stakeholders by observing the international protocols of prevention such as regular washing of hands, use of alcohol-based sanitizers, wearing of face masks, avoiding handshakes and keeping strictly to the principles of social distancing.”
The Governor used the medium to condemn the frequent inter-ethnic and communal clashes in some parts of the state, particularly in Southern Taraba, which resulted to the death of many innocent people and the destruction of houses and crops.
He warned those who frequently resort to crisis and killings at the slightest provocation to stop forthwith as security agencies have been mandated to deal decisively with such situation anywhere it occurs.
