The attention of the Executive Governor of Taraba state, His Excellency, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, has been drawn to recent social media reports suggesting that he has sacked Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa, his Chief Press Secretary.

This was contained in a press release signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Bala Dan Abu.

It states that the report is not only wrong but a gross misrepresentation of what actually transpired.

It states that the Chief Press Secretary in the Office of the governor is a civil service position and should be occupied only by a career civil servant and Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa is a political appointee, not a career civil servant.

It states that his appointment 13 years ago as Chief Press Secretary was, therefore, wrong and that his removal is not a sack but a correction of a previous mistake and that it is in line with civil services rules and regulations. He has, accordingly, been re-designated as Senior Special Assistant and will continue working in the Media Department of the Governor’s Office.

The general public is therefore, notified with all the emphasis desirable, that Governor Ishaku has not sacked Hassan Mijinyawa or any of his media aides and has advised journalists in the state, particularly those operating social media platforms, to show a lot more discretion and responsibility in their interpretation of government’s decisions and actions to avoid causing unnecessary disharmony among the people.
