The Taraba state government will give all the necessary support needed for the transformation of the Federal University, Wukari in Taraba state to a world class institution, the state Governor, Arc. Darius Ishaku has said.

Accordingly, the management of the institution, has been charged to identify areas of support and cooperation with the state government in the pursuit of this mandate.

Governor Ishaku ho made the pledge while playing host to the presidential visitation panel on the University led by Dr. Umaru Dorofi said the institution should shift emphasis from traditional courses to science and technology oriented programme in response to the current global focus on technology development.

He said the world was evolving into a digital age and therefore all education pursuits must be tailored to reflect such realities.

Earlier, the leader of the visitation panel, Dr. Dorofi said they were in government house to their mission and the state and also solicit his support where necessary.

He said their mandate was to look in the general administration, finances, work content, management/staff relationship in the last 10 years.

The panel is a constitution of the Federal Government who are saddled with the responsibility of visiting universities after 10 years to evaluate the university.

These evaluations include governance, academic issues, quality assurance, financial management which is prudent and a cordial working relationship between the management and students. Also among their evaluation are areas of infrastructures, growth and so on. This committee is mandated by the president to see what they do in universities after every 10 years.

The panel which visited Taraba includes members from Rivers state Bauchi state, Anambra state, Kogi and FCT.

The Chairman of the panel disclosed that the visit was to officially inform the Governor of their presence and assignment in Taraba state as well as to solicit for support throughout their stay in the state.

Governor Darius Ishaku responding to the panel said he is aware that their visit is critical especially to the survival of the university, he said 10 years was enough for any university to provide enough quality result for the society.

He said it is necessary because this will inform the President if indeed the formation of the school was the best or an effort in vain.

Governor Ishaku disclosed that the Federal University Wukari has been lucky because all the former VCs did extremely well and he is optimistic that the present will do even better though citizens expectations are high and wish that other courses like Engineering be added to the fleet of study courses.

The Governor said he beleives in quality than quantity because if there are quality staff, it gives the society the best output and went ahead to urge the federal government to focus on the quality and field of specialisation.

He assured them of maximum support in carrying out their assignments throughout their stay in the state and foresees the university growing to become one of the best in the country.

Wukari though have had her own share of insecurity just as other parts in the nation which has affected the calender of academics activities of the school but he is happy that activities are picking up academically in the school.
