Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has accepted the call on him by the Southern Taraba Women and Youth Coalition, (STWYC) to run for the Senate in the 2023 general elections.
The governor who spoke while receiving a mammoth crowd of the group at the state’s executive council chambers, government house Jalingo said he was humbled by the decision of the group as it shows how appreciative they were on his efforts in developing the state.
According to him, after his first foray into politics in 1999 was foiled by some self-serving politicians who rigged him of that year’s senatorial primaries, he decided to return to practice his profession, while bidding farewell to politics.
He said that little did he knew that God had something different for him in the offing, when to his astonishment, he was nominated as a Minister of the Federal Republic and from there he became governor.
“As a son of divinity, I rely on God for directions in my life. When I went to contest for senate and was rigged out, I choose to stay away from politics, but God has his own plans.
“I became Minister when I lest expected and it was God that made me governor, I never planned for it,” he said.
“So you can see that again today. The little effort that we have been putting in developing our state, you people are showing tremendous appreciation and I believe it is the same reason why you’re asking me to continue to provide leadership by contesting for senate”.
He maintained that he will not disappoint the people of Southern Taraba as well as the entire state in remaining period of his administration as he was poised to continue to provide the desired leadership to move the state forward.
“On these premise, therefore, I have accepted your clarion call to run for senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2023, God’s willing, he declared.
Earlier, the state’s Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), Lt. Col. Agbu Kefas (rtd), told the Governor that he had call from the group last week that they were in Jalingo with a message for his Excellency and that they were not ready to leave town until he linked them with the governor.
Leader of the coalition and member representing Ibi in the state’s House of assembly, Hon. Lawan Mohammed, who presented the clarion call told the Governor that it was payback time from the people following the development strides of the governor in the State.
According to him, there was no better way of saying thank you to the wonderful work the governor did in the state apart from rewarding him with the ticket to the Senate.
