Taraba State Bureau Of Public Procurement in collaboration with Damita Consulting Limited have organized a 2-day sensitisation workshop for effective public procurement practice for Commissioners and permanent secretaries to enhance development in the state.

Declaring the workshop open, Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas said the workshop is very timely and it will augment due process in public procurement practice in the state. The governor was represented by the Taraba State Head of Service, Mrs Suzy Jemimah Nathan.

In his welcome speech, the Director General of Bureau Of Public Procurement Taraba State, Elder Shamaki Assemboh, stressed that the five fingers strategic plans of Dr.
Agbu Kefas leadership action plan cannot be achieved without robust procurement process.

Shamaki urged all chief executive officers, sectors and accounting officers to synergize with BPP and set a due diligence public procurement in Taraba State.

The DG reiterated that public procurement is not buying and selling, but it is about the process of obtaining goods, works and services, in a transparent manner in other to achieve value for money, and also disposal of government properties in order to achieve value for the properties.

On his part, the Commissioner for Digital Economy and Innovation, Hon. Gideon Samuel Nonso, applauded the organizers of the workshop.

Nonso said the training is a continuation of the previous Abuja retreat, and the governor is a man of due process who believes in the rule of law, as well as the preparation of appointees for effective leadership.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, Mrs Indo Mackson, expressed her profound gratitude to Dr. Agbu Kefas for the fantastic initiative of training Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries on effective public procurement.

Mrs. Mackson explained that the guiding principle of handling tender, submission of documents, advertisement, and award of contact are crucial topics for procurement officer.

The two day workshop which took place at the Shield Hotel Jalingo, Taraba State trained 22 serving Commissioners and 38 Permanent Secretaries, on various topics, such as: Essential of due Process Mechanism, Fundamentals of Procurement Panning Evaluation, Application and Implementation of Public Procurement Process, Procurement
Method selection of contractors and consultants, roles of Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries in Procurement and Procurement Fraud among others.
