Kashimbila Dam/Airport: Gov. Agbu Kefas Appoints Special Committee Ahead of Commissioning

In a strategic move towards the official inauguration of the Kashimbila Dam and Airport projects, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has approved the formation of a specialized committee. The committee comprises esteemed members from various sectors, tasked with ensuring the seamless preparation and execution of the commissioning ceremony scheduled for February 23rd, 2024, at 10 am.

Led by Dr. Jedi Williams mni, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, the committee boasts a diverse array of professionals and stakeholders. Notable members include Rt. Hon. Mark Useni – MHR, Musa Siman, Esq., and several honorable commissioners representing key ministries such as Water Resources & Aquatic Affairs, Energy, Works & Infrastructure, and Transportation.

Additionally, representatives from local government councils, law enforcement agencies including the DPOs of Takum and Ussa LGAs, as well as the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) have been appointed to the committee.

Dr. Emmanuel Lawson, Jechonia Agabi, Jerome Luka, and other esteemed individuals also serve as members, alongside community leaders and officials from relevant government agencies.

The committee’s primary objective is to oversee the meticulous planning and coordination of the commissioning event, which will be graced by the esteemed presence of former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. With this distinguished assembly of members, Taraba State is poised to mark a significant milestone in its infrastructure development journey.

Expressing confidence in the committee’s capabilities, Sanda Yusuf, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reiterated the state’s commitment to delivering these transformative projects for the benefit of all Tarabans.

As the countdown begins to the historic event, anticipation mounts for the unveiling of the Kashimbila Dam and Airport, representing a monumental leap forward in Taraba’s infrastructure landscape.

His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas received the CEO of XeJet, Mr. Emmanuel Iza in Jalingo, this afternoon. During the meeting, the CEO made known his intention of partnering Taraba State on Air Taraba.

He explained that setting up Air Taraba would stimulate economic growth.

According to the CEO of XeJet Air, the proposed Air Taraba is a 50-seater regional jet service and will provide domestic passenger services on Abuja Jalingo routes and others to be created later.

The Governor in his usual demeanour of always paying attention to any initiative/idea that will develop the present state of Taraba, acknowledged the proposition of Mr. Emmanuel Iza and re-emphasized the commitment of his administration to upgrade the Suntai Airport – as the re-modeling of the airport is ongoing.

Present during the visit are top government functionaries and some members of the state House of Assembly.

Taraba state governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has flagged the Taraba State Students Identification System (TESIS). The data capturing seeks to get the accurate number of schools and pupils in the entire state.

The governor in his speech at the event said government policy on free education has come to stay. He stressed that a major plank of the free education program is to ensure that data plays a central role. Describing the event as a significant one, he said the identification project officially flags off the free education policy.

He stressed that while every child in Taraba state is entitled to free education, parents must take responsibility for the ward by making them available. Calling on the state to key into the initiative, the governor said teachers are a corner stone of the policy. Teachers, he said, will be motivated to play a pivotal role in learning.

Dr. Kefas said the financial burden of education has been officially rolled off from parents. He enjoined all to support the efforts of government by providing necessary information on how best to improve on the model. He said the journey will be of deep benefits to parents, teachers and students.

Earlier in her comments, the commissioner of education, Dr Augustina Godwin, said the governor has matched words with actions by ensuring that the free education becomes reality. She commended the level of architectural work that went into building the new schools.

A student from Nyamusala Secondary School Jalingo Abdulsama Aliyu in his vote of thanks appreciated the Governor for his huge investment in the education sector.

The occasion witnessed performances from the Taraba Cultural Troupe and some music artists.

The occasion which took place in Nyamusala Primary and Secondary School, one of the new model schools in Jalingo, saw the coming together of top politicians in the state.

A special guest, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu noted that Dr Kefas has demonstrated seriousness in the quest for free education.

The occasion had in attendance members of the National Assembly which includes; Senator Haruna Manu, Senator Shuaibu Lau and Senator Jim Kuta. Others are House of Representatives members Hon ADC Jaafaru, Hon Abdullahi Louya and Ho. David Abel Fuoh.

A highlight of the program was a demonstration of the data capturing by the governor who registered some students along side the TESIS field team led by the Managing Director ZIP Warehousing Limited, Mrs Uchenna Eshareturi.

In an effort to combat crime, secure lives and properties in the state, the Taraba state government under the leadership of Dr Agbu Kefas distributed JAC utility vans to the state leadership of the Nigeria Police and that of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp NSCDC.

In a significant development, His Excellency, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, has announced the appointment of Mr. Paul Maigida Tino as the new Head of the State Civil Service. The appointment comes following a meticulous screening process conducted by a committee tasked with recommending a qualified candidate for the prestigious role.

Born on September 9th, 1966, in Sabongida Tukura, Kurmi Local Government Area of Taraba State, Mr. Tino brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new position. His educational journey includes stints at various institutions, culminating in a Bachelor of Technology degree in Animal Science Fisheries and Range Management from the Federal University of Technology, Yola, in 1999.

Mr. Tino’s professional trajectory within the civil service is marked by a commitment to excellence and continuous learning. Starting as a Livestock Superintendent in the State Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources in 1990, he steadily climbed the ranks, obtaining additional qualifications such as a Post-Graduate Diploma in Administration and a Master’s in Public Administration.

Throughout his career, Mr. Tino has demonstrated a passion for public service and a keen interest in disaster risk management. He has served in various capacities, including as Secretary of the Local Government Service Commission and Director of Planning Research and Statistics at the State Emergency Management Agency.

The appointment of Mr. Tino follows a rigorous selection process, with 15 out of 35 Permanent Secretaries presenting themselves for screening. Mr. Tino emerged as the top candidate, scoring the highest points and exemplifying merit and qualification for the role.

Expressing delight at the appointment, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yusuf Sanda, affirmed Mr. Tino’s suitability for the position, citing his extensive experience, commendable track record, and dedication to public service.

With Mr. Tino at the helm of the State Civil Service, Taraba State looks forward to continued progress and effective administration, guided by principles of meritocracy and excellence.
