36,000 Taraba Residents HIV Positive – TACA

Over 36,000 people are living with HIV/AIDS in Taraba state,even as the state government has again expressed its commitment to eliminate the virus by 2030.

This was made known at the weekly review performance of the implementation Partners working across HIV, tuberculosis and orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) in the State during the weekend.

At the time of filing this report, 36,396 persons living with Human Immuno deficiency Viruses (HIV) in Taraba state, have been captured in the state’s database and are currently under regular treatment.Out of this number, 20,200 are said to be virally suppressed.

The weekly review, which took place at the Situation room of Taraba Action Committee against HIV/AIDS,(TACA), located in the premises of the State secretariat, brought together various implementation partners, including RISE Nigeria, World Health Organization, among others.

Out of the 2,156 persons said to have been tested for HIV across the sixteen local government councils of the State, last week, 77 persons were confirmed positive. 359 of the number tested are children between year 0-14 years old.76 out of the 77 persons who tested positive, were also said to have been linked to treatment with various health facilities scattered across the State.

Speaking at the occasion, the DirectorGeneral of the Agency, Dr. Garba Danjuma said the desire of the state is to eliminate HIV on or before the 2030 target period and to make sure that no person died as a result of the disease again.

Also on his part, the team leader of Reaching Impact and Saturation Epidemic Control (RISE Nigeria), Dr. Joseph Chiegil, alongside other partners, mapped out action points that would assist in addressing the prevalence of the disease.

However, due to the absence of His Excellency, the Executive Governor ARC Darius Dickson Ishaku in the state, Government has directed the council chairmen and the councillors to continue to oversee the affairs of their respective council’s pending the return of the Governor when decision will be taken.

Wife of the Executive Governor and CEO Hope Afresh Foundation, Taraba, Barr. Mrs. Anna Mbasughun Darius Ishaku

Wife of the Governor of Taraba State, Anna Darius Ishaku, has urged young female lawyers to be committed and dedicated to their professional duties.

Mrs Ishaku, a lawyer, gave the counselling during a mentorship programme organised by the Nigerian Bar Association Women Forum (NBAWF).

This was just as the NBAWF gave her an award of honour for her “meritorious services and support.”

The event, which was held at the conference hall of Hope Afresh Foundation, Jalingo, featured discussions on sexual harassment and career progression in legal profession, among other topics. The programme is designed to empower female lawyers to be successful in their professional career, the organisers said.

The governor’s wife stated that learning from seniors helps in improving performance and leads to mastery of the job.

His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle.

Following the development, the Honourable Commissioner of Women Affairs and Child Development Mrs Hauwa K. Andeyantso has been moved to the Ministry of Social Development while her counterpart Mrs Bridget Twa who heads the Ministry of Social Development is now in charge of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development.

The minor cabinet reshuffle is with immediate effect.
