Functions of The Ministry

The Ministry is saddled with the following responsibilities;

  1. Protecting the health of the citizens of the state.
  2. Provide health promotion, prevention and curative services.
  3. Formulate health policies.
  4. Regulate activities of public and private sectors health care providers.
  5. Ensure that health activities meet national and International standards.
  6. Collaborate with training Institutions on manpower (Human Resources for Health) needs in the state.

Achievements of the Ministry

The Ministry has recorded the following achievements;

  1. Immunisation programmes with wide coverage.
  2. Mobile health clinic (Partnership between the state and MTN).
  3. Temporary Accreditation of College of Nursing and Midwifery by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  4. Renovation and equipping of Gen. T.Y. Danjuma Health Centre, Takum.
  5. Containment of Lassa fever outbreak.
  6. Assessment of some General/Referral Hospitals for planned renovation and equipping.

[/fusion_toggle][fusion_toggle title=”Commissioner” open=”no”]Hon. Comm. Min of HealthDr Innocent Vakkai, the Honourable Commissioner of Health hails from Ardo-Kola Local Government Area. He was born on 28th December 1971 and is married with two (2) children.

He started his educational career at Lugere Primary School, Jimeta- Yola from 1977-1983 and proceeded to General Murtala Mohammed College, Yola from 1983-1988. He enrolled into tyhe Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1990-1998 as well as National Post Graduate Medical College of Nigeria from 2002-2009.

Other Achievements

He is a Consultant Public Health Physician and won the 1st position, Gongola state Young Scientist competition in 1987. He also won the 1st position, Mathematical quiz competition, Gongola state in 1988 and Head of Nigeria Delegation to Belize Central America.

Workshops Attended

He attended workshops on retro-viral use in the Treatment of HIV in the Caribbean and Surveillance Training by World Health Organisation (WHO) in Abuja.

Publications

Dr Innocent has the following Publications to his name;

  • Prevalence and Reinfection Rates of Soil-transmitted Helminths among School Children in Ardo-kola Local Government Area of Taraba state.
  • Prevalence of Breast and Cervical cancer among women in Jalingo.

Director – Hospital Services

Dr Musa Haruna Ambinkanme, the Director, Hospital Services, was born on 13th February 1957. He hails from Donga Local Government Area. He is married with five (5) children.
He started his educational career at LEA Primary school, Tudun Wada, Donga Local Government Area from 1963-1969, he proceeded to Wukari Division Combined Secondary School, Takum from 1971-1975. He enrolled in the School of Basic Studies, ABU Zaria from 1975-1976 and Faculty of Medicine, ABU, Zaria from 1976-1981.

He also studied at Galilee College, Isreal in 2005.
He enjoys farming.

Dr Ebenezer Koku Apake

Dr Ebenezer Koku Apake is currently the Director, Primary Healthcare and Disease Control. He was born on 1st October 1964 and hails from Wukari Local Government Area. He is married with four (4) children.

Dr Ebenezer started his educational career at Shehu Garba Primary School, Maiduguri, Local Education Authority Primary School, Makurdi and Hwolshe Giring Primary School, Jos from 1971-1973, 1974 and 1975-1977 respectively. He enrolled into Mbiya Government Secondary School, Takum from 1977-1982 where he proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1982-1988 and continued from 2005-2006 in the same institution.
He obtained an MBBS Degree in 1988 and a Masters in Public Health in 2010.
He has attended numerous workshops and has a Publication in Masters in Public Health (MPH) Thesis.

Dr Ebenezer enjoys reading and listening to music.

Director – Finance

Mr Igirah Karma Daniel is currently the Director, Finance and hails from Takum Local Government Area. He was born on 25th December 1960 and is married with eighteen (18) children.
Mr Igirah started his educational career at Chanchanji Primary School from 1969-1975 where he obtained his 1st School leaving certificate.
He proceeded to Government Secondary School, Wukari from 1975-1980 where he obtained his WASC and further enrolled into Bayero University, Kano from 1981-1985 where he bagged his B.Sc. in Accounting.

Mr Hosea Adamu Bata is the Director, Nursing Services. He was born on 10th August 1957 and hails from Takum Local Government Area. He is married with five (5) children.
He began his educational career at EKAS Local Education Authority Primary School, Takum from 1974-1979 after which he proceeded to Government Secondary School, Wukari in 1979 and further studied at the following places;
 Benue State University, Makurdi. 2006-2008.
 University of Nigeria, 1998-2002.

Mr Kefas Ishaya Ambair is the Director, Laboratory Services. He was born on 20th December 1959 and hails from Karim-lamido Local Government Area. He is married with four (4) children.
He started his educational career at St. Peter’s Primary School, Nukkai- Jalingo from 1966-1972 where he obtained his 1st School Leaving Certificate. He then proceeded to Government Secondary School, Jalingo from 1973-1977 where he obtained his WASC. He thereafter enrolled into the following institutions;

Pharm. Solomon Agyu

Pharm. Solomon Dauda Angyu is the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics. He was born on 2nd June 1973 and hails from Takum Local Government Area. He is married with three (3) children.
He began his educational career at Ebenezer Primary School, Wukari from 1976-1982. He proceeded to Federal Government College, Wukari from 1982-1988. He further enroled into the University of Jos from 1990-1997 and West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP), Lagos in 2010.
He was the Assistant Director of Pharmaceutical Services Member, West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists.

Mr Jephthah Adamu is the Director, Administration in the Ministry and was born on 5th April 1959. He hails from Ussa Local Government Area and is married with five (5) children.
He started his educational career at the Local Education Authority Primary School, Kpambo in 1972 and proceeded to Wukari Division Combined Secondary School, Takum in 1977. He thereafter enrolled into the Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola from 2007-2013.

Director – Pharmaceutical Services

Pharm. Aboki Philip Zechariah is the Director, Pharmaceutical Services. He was born on 10th august, 1963 and hails from Bali Local Government Area. He is married with three (3) children.
Pharm. Aboki started his educational pursuit at Ebenezer Primary School, Wukari in 1978 and proceeded to Mbiya Government Secondary School, Takum in 1983. He studied at College of Preliminary Studies, Yola and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in both 1987 and 1992 respectively.

Awards Received

He received the FH1360 sustainability Star Award in 2013.
