Functions of the Ministry

The functions of the Ministry include;

  1. Responsible for the Engineering conception of all Government Roads, Preparation of bills of Quantity, Appraisal of Xander’s and Supervision of same by contract and/or direct labour.
  2. Mobilisation of Human, material and financial resources for effective service delivery.
  3. Design, Construction, and Maintenance of Infrastructural facilities such as Roads and Airports.
  4. Coordinating Land, Air, and Water transport activities.
  5. Running the Jalingo Township Taxi Schemes.
  6. Plants and Machinery Acquisition, Maintenance as well as Certification of Government vehicles and disposal.
  7. Promoting safety of lives and properties on public roads, air and waterways.
  8. Provision of Laboratory Services for Civil Engineering works.
  9. Advice Government on issues relating to subject matters under the schedule of the Ministry.
  10. It has cabinet responsibility for its agencies.

Achievements of the Ministry

The Ministry has so far recorded the following achievements;

  1. Construction of Jalingo and Wukari Township roads.
  2. Construction of Jalingo –Sunkani-Garba Chede road.
  3. Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Bali-Serti-Gembu road.
  4. Construction of Jalingo-Kona dual carriage way.
  5. Construction of Jalingo-Katsina-Ala road, phase 1 6.5km.
  6. Construction on Internal Roads and Drainages of Federal Medical Center, Jalingo.
  7. Connecting the State Airport to the National Grid.
  8. Installation of Solar Powered Street lights along Danbaba Suntai Road and Donga road in Jalingo metropolis.
  9. Improved awareness campaign on road traffic rules and regulations.
  10. Improved revenue generation through miscellaneous Road Traffic offences as compared to the previous records.
  11. Establishment of VIO Zonal/Area offices across the state.
  12. Purchase of different categories of vehicles and allocated to unemployed youths, Hon. Commissioners and Special Advisers on loan for empowerment.
  13. Construction of Modern Airport and purchase as well as Supply of Aircrafts which include;
    Donier 208,
    2Nos Embraer 145,
    Bell 147 (Helicopter), and 1 Cassina Caravan.

The Commissioner

Dr. Tafarki Agbadu Eneme, the Commissioner, Ministry of Works and Transport, was born on 10th January, 1961 and hails from Kurmi Local Government Area. He is married with four (4) children.

Dr. Tafarki began his educational pursuit at LEA Primary School, Ndaforo from 1969-1975 where he obtained his 1st School Leaving Certificate after which he enrolled in Government Secondary School, Ganye for his WASC from 1975-1980 and thereafter proceeded to School of Basic Studies (SBS/ABU Zaria) from 1980-1981 where he obtained his IJMB Certificate, ABU Zaria from 1983-1988 for his DVM Degree, University of Maiduguri from 1998-2001 where he obtained his M.Sc. and is presently studying at University of Nigeria NSUKKA for his Ph.D course.

Professional Achievements:

His Professional achievements include;

  1. Doctor of Vet. Medicine (DVM) Degree – 1988.
  2. Sc. Veterinary Parasitology – 2001.

The Permanent Secretary

Engr. Tanko Kitere Audu, FNSE, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Transport. He was born on 6th January, 1960 and hails from Takum Local Government Area. He is married with four (4) children.

He began his educational career at L.E.A Primary School, Takum East from 1968-1970, Methodist Primary School, Constitution Road, Kaduna from 1971-1973 and Roman Catholic Primary School, Kaduna-Vom, Plateau State from 1973-1974 where he enrolled into St. Joseph College Vom, Plateau State from 1974-1979. He then proceeded to School of Basic Studies, ABU Zaria from 1979-1984.

Professional Achievements:

His Professional achievements include;

  1. Member, Board of Trustees of Nigeria Association of Public Highways and Transportation Officials (NAPHTO), 2004-Date.

Secretary

Mr. Martin Okan, the Secretary of the Ministry, was born on 6th January, 1959. He hails from Sardauna Local Government Area and is married with five (5) children.

Mr. Okan began his educational career at Kabri Primary School, Gembu from 1966-1972 and later enrolled into GSS, Gembu from 1973-1977 and T.C Mubi from 1977-1978. He proceeded to College of Preliminary Studies from 1980-1982 where he obtained his IJMB, ABU Zaria from 1982-1985 where he obtained his Degree and presently pursuing his Masters at Benue State University.

Awards Received:

He was given three (3) Merit Awards by the Christian Pilgrims Commission, Abuja for the State Excellent Performance in Pilgrimage of 2001, 2002 and 2003 and a Merit Award by the Taraba State Labour Congress for Excellent Performance when he was the Executive Secretary of the Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Taraba State.

Workshops Attended:

Mr. Martin attended a workshop on Leadership and Evangelism in USA in March, 1998 and was appointed Executive Secretary, Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board from July, 1999-November, 2004.

Engr. Danladi Ushiki Adamu, FNSE, ACost E, MNICE, the Director, Civil Engineering was born on 1st January, 1961. He hails from Donga Local Government Area and is married with five (5) children.

Engr. Danladi began his educational pursuit at EKAS Primary School, Nyita, Donga from 1970-1976 where he enrolled into Wukari Division Combined Secondary School, Takum from 1976-1981. He then proceeded to Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Bauchi campus (now Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi) from 1981-1987.

Arch. Kaigama Mamman Lodiya, the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, was born on 22nd June 1960. He hails from Takum Local Government Area and is married with two (2) children.

Arch. Kaigama began his educational pursuit at Rimi Primary School from 1967-1973 and enrolled into Mbiya Government Secondary School, Takum from 1976-1981. He later proceeded to College of Preliminary Studies, Yola from 1981-1983 and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria from 1983-1988.

He is an Associate Member, Nigeria Institute of Architects.

Engr. Godfrey Andrew Dame

Engr. Godfrey Dame Andrew, the Director, Mechanical Engineering in the Ministry, was born on 18th October 1967. He hails from Ardo-kola Local Government Area and is married with five (5) children.

Engr. Godfrey started his educational career at Andi Gomo Primary School, Zuru in 1980 and then enrolled into Government Technical Secondary School, Numan and Government Technical College, Yola in 1985 and 1988 respectively. He further proceeded to College of Education, Jalingo (now in Zing) in 1992 and University of Maiduguri in 2004.

He is a Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers and Member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) and also Member, National Institute of Mechanical Engineers.

He enjoys Reading and Playing Basketball.

Mr. Saidi Dan-Asabe Donga, the Director, Electrical Engineering in the Ministry, was born on 15th November, 1960. He hails from Takum Local Government Area and is married with five (5) children.

He started his educational career at Takum West Primary School in 1977 and enrolled into General Murtala Mohammed College (G.M.M.C), Yola in 1982 after which he proceeded to Federal Polytechnic, Mubi in 1990.

He is a Member, Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) and also Member, Electrical Engineering Technologists.
