The Taraba State Government has reinforced its commitment to economic diversification through a strategic partnership with Finland aimed at developing the state's solid minerals sector and attracting responsible mining investments.
The collaboration forms part of the administration's broader strategy to reduce dependence on federal allocations by unlocking the vast economic potential of Taraba's abundant mineral resources. Through sustainable exploration and international partnerships, the state is positioning mining as a key driver of economic growth, industrial development, and job creation.
As part of the partnership, a delegation of mining experts and investors from Finland is expected to visit Taraba State to assess key mineral-rich locations, including Gembu, Bali, and Wukari, while engaging with government officials and relevant stakeholders on opportunities for responsible mineral exploration and investment.
The visit builds on an existing Memorandum of Understanding between the Taraba State Government and the City of Oulu, Finland, which promotes collaboration in strategic sectors including mining and education. Taraba State is also an official member of the Mining Finland network, providing access to reputable international mining companies and investors committed to sustainable mining practices.
The state government reaffirmed that all mining activities under the partnership will adhere to internationally accepted principles of responsible mining, with environmental protection, community participation, and equitable economic benefits forming the foundation of future operations.
According to the government, host communities will be actively involved throughout the mining value chain, ensuring that local residents benefit from employment opportunities and the long-term socio-economic value created by mining investments.
The Finnish delegation is also scheduled to visit Taraba State University, where discussions will continue on academic and technical collaboration initiated during Governor Agbu Kefas' visit to the University of Oulu Mining School in Finland. The partnership is expected to strengthen research, skills development, and capacity building in the mining sector.
In addition, plans are underway for Taraba State to participate in a European Union investment forum focused on showcasing the state's mining potential to international investors. The initiative supports ongoing efforts by the state government to improve mineral licensing processes, strengthen sector governance, and position Taraba as an investment-ready destination.
Governor Agbu Kefas reiterated his administration's commitment to eliminating illegal mining activities while creating an enabling environment for responsible and transparent mineral development. He emphasized that sustainable mining remains central to the state's economic transformation agenda and will continue to be pursued in partnership with credible local and international stakeholders.
Through strategic international collaboration, responsible resource management, and investor-friendly policies, Taraba State is laying the foundation for a modern mining industry that will contribute significantly to economic diversification, employment creation, and sustainable development.
