Hope Afresh foundation Taraba in collaboration with Ishk Tolaram foundation has commenced donation of free artificial limbs to Amputees in the state.
Speaking at event at Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, wife of the Governor Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku who was represented by her Senior Special Assistant on Administration, Barr. Nun-Rimam Dashe said the gesture is to give a sense of belonging to the Amputees.
The Governor’s wife explained that the free donation will run to Sunday this week at the Hope Afresh foundation, Taraba.
Anna Darius Ishaku commended her partners for supporting her desires of touching lives in the state.
On her part, the President, Centre of Advocacy for Persons with Disability, Omotunde Ellen Thompson said the gesture is a plus to disabled in Taraba state.
Omotunde described the gesture as timely as the artificial limbs will give amputees a sense of belonging.
Some of the beneficiaries explained that with the artificial limbs, they can now work and engaged in some skills acquisition to earn a living.
Many screened Amputees are seen at Hope Afresh foundation eagerly waiting to receive their free artificial limbs.
The exercise continues from today until Sunday to effectively attend to all screened amputees drawn from the three senatorial zones of the state and beyond.

Wives of governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has expressed dismay on intense level of violence against women and children in the country.
This is contained in a communique issued at the meeting of forum of wives of governors of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and signed by the wife of the Chairman of Nigeria Governors Forum, Erelu Bisi Fayemi, Chairperson Northern Governors Wives Forum, Amina Abubakar and Chairperson Southern Governors Wives Forum, Besty Obaseki.
The governors wives pledged their support to the First Lady of Nigeria, Aisha Buhari and call for actions to be taken against the increasing rate at which women and children are being sexually abused in Nigeria.
They lamented that on daily basis there are cases of defilement of even babies of six months old, rape, domestic violence, sexual harrassment and even murder of women and children.
The communique expressed worry that women and children with special needs have also become targets of sexual violence even with the existence of laws at the federal level such as Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act, 2015 as well as legislations at state levels.
The governors wives said as cn the Inspector General of Police to direct the Nigerian Police to treat rape and defilement cases with speed and the seriousness such cases deserve in order to ensure justice for victims.
It added that police should be tactful and supportive in the handling of alleged sexual offences and take measures to prevent the intimidation of victims by families and associates of suspects.
The forum of governors wives also said rape and sexual offences desks should be created in police stations across the country where they do not exist.
It also states that the Attorney General of the Federation as well as State Attorney Generals should fast track cases of rape and defilement and set up special offences courts for rape and defilement cases.
The communique beseech the minister of health to ensure timely provision of sensitive and comprehensive medical services to victims of sexual violence.
It pleaded that all medical facilities be equipped with Rape Kits and Post Exposure Prophylaxis,PEP to prevent rape victims from contracting HIV & AIDS.
The forum further appeal to the national assembly, governors and state houses of assembly to facilitate the passage of laws to protect women and children from violence and abuse and urged civil society organisations and women’s support groups to continue to advocate on behalf of victims as well as provide all relevant services.
The forum implored the public to address issue of rape and sexual violence by supporting victims to get Justice and break the culture of being mute which prevent victims from reporting such cases.
The communique reiterated that as wives of governors, they are committed to using their positions to support all efforts aimed at mitigating the scourge.

Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba (HAFT) has commenced the flag-off ceremony towards free provisions of Artificial Limbs to Amputees in the state.
This is in collaboration with Centre for Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities and Tolaram Charity Foundation.
H.E Barr. Mrs. Anna Ishaku ( CEO – HAFT), graciously represented by the foundation’s administrative officer, Barr. Mrs. Dashe Nun-Rimam said history has been made today with the commendable efforts of the Governor’s wife as over 400 beneficiaries will be attended to. The exercise which started with the first phase on measurements of the various limbs of all participants will continue through out the week.
The National President Centre for Advocacy For Person with Disabilities (APWD), Mrs. Omotunde Ellen Thompson said that there is ability for any disability because she stands as a living testimony because she has been handicapped from the age of five. She said a disabled person is still full of potentials and all he or she needs is encouragement from genuine people like Her Excellency who has sought to reduce their handicapping conditions for a more meaningful life.
In his vote of thanks, Mr. Obadiah Musa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health Taraba state, appreciated the initiative of the Governor’s wife and her partners in rendering selfless service to the wellbeing of handicaps in the state. He further encouraged staff of HAFT to always see such work as a call to the hopeless rather than duty.

“Lets Get Nigeria Working Again” is a clarion call for which the Nigeria women are so determined not to leave any stone unturned.
It was for this course that the wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku, wife of the former Vice President of Nigeria, Hajia Titi Atiku Abubakar, wife of the Senate President, Mrs. Toyin Saraki alongside the wife of the Speaker, Mrs. Gimbia Dogara and wife of the of the Benue State Governor , Her Excellency Eunice Ortom with other Prominent PDP stakeholders’ wives and women of substance across Nigeria met at the PDP National Women Conference 2019, held in Abuja the nation’s capital.
At the conference with the theme “Call to Action”, these women of substance from various walks of life pained by the state of the nation, came out of their comfort zones to deliberate on critical issues that affect Nigerians, particularly women and children who are the most vulnerable.
According to these women of impact, they no longer needed any form of “slow motion”. They prefer a President that can hit the ground running and that is no other person than Alhaji Atiku Abubakar GCON.
The women appealed that women be given more roles as party agents and canvassers as they are better canvassers for vote who can devise strategies to convince their husbands to vote for Atiku.
Since a man’s hair cannot be shaved in his absence, the incoming President and the presidential candidate of PDP was accompanied to the conference by the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki and the National Chairman of PDP, Chief Uche Secondus.
Atiku commended the women for organizing the conference which according him was historic and promising with futuristic benefits.
Atiku disclosed that for his near three decades in politics, women had always been his greatest supporters and the presence of his wives in that conference was an indication that women will not be relegated to the “other room” but will be at the forefront of decision making process in his government when elected.
Concurring to the views of Atiku, Saraki and the PDP Chairman applauded the women for the marvelous initiative and assured them of their cooperation. They also lauded the women for being reliable, dependable and trustworthy when it comes to the Nigerian electoral system.
According to the duo, Nigeria is in critical need for a healthy and energetic president who has the capacity and capability to handle the activities of the Presidency for 24 hours a day just as the seat requires.

The Hope Health Center an offshoot of the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, has marked its first year anniversary.

His Excellency, Arc. Darius Ishaku with his wife, Barr. Anna Ishaku celebrating the one year anniversary of Hope Health Centre in Jalingo.
The center which was established by Her Excellency Barrister Anna Darius Ishaku is a rehabilitation centre for the treatment of people battling with drug and substance abuse.
Mrs. Ishaku disclosed that she was moved to open the centre when she was confronted with pathetic stories of persons involved with drug abuse and other related addictions.
She revealed that the center was a direct investment from her office to help giveTarabans trapped in the world of drug addiction an exit route through rehabilitation.
“It was a concern to me when I heard the story of a priest who was battling with drug abuse and I thought it wise to set up a facility that will help those looking for an easy way to stay away from drugs.
“The center is not mine but it is my little contribution to making Tarabans come out of the scourge of drug addiction which has devastating effect on the overall well-being of those abusing it”.
She paid tribute to the pioneer staff of the centre who have been very dedicated to service and helping people undergoing rehabilitation at the center and urged them to be steadfast as the sacrifice for humanity can only be divinely rewarded.
In his remarks, Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku who was the special guest of honour promised to build a proper rehabilitation centre that will be affiliated with the State Specialist Hospital.
He praised the good work the foundation was doing to help reduce the rate of people becoming insane due to addiction from drugs and stressed on the need for the center’s activities to be documented and stored to enable future leaders of the state consolidate on the inroads being made by the center.
“We are at a critical time in our history as a State. I therefore believe the problem of reducing the menace of insanity from drug related problems is to have a befitting rehabilitation center. I will ensure the center’s funding is captured in the 2019 budget”
According to Father Cyracus Kamai, the problem of drug addiction is beyond what many in the society can comprehend. He commended Mrs Ishaku for establishing the center, claiming it to be the best pet project by any First Lady of the state.
The anniversary which served as a fundraiser for the center had notable individuals, groups and organizations who made cash donations for the upkeep of clients at the center.
Highlight of the occasion was testimonies from clients who had graduated from the center.

The Wife of the Taraba State Governor, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku was presented with a meritorious Award of Excellence by Tekan-Ecwa Women wing of Taraba State.
Speaking at the ceremony which took place at the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba, Mrs. Sarah David, chairperson of Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing said that Barr. Anna was selected based on her Christian and humanitarian services.
She enumerated the services to include renovation of two Christian Cemeteries at Magami and Mallam Joda, liberation of Ngada people, offering of training in different skills to women and youths as well as training of traditional birth attendants among others.
Sarah Ibbi pledged the unalloyed support of Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing to Governor Darius Ishaku’s re-election in the forthcoming general elections.
She revealed that the group will soon embark on in-depth dialogue with women at grassroots to sustain the tempo of followership and electioneering awareness.
Responding, Barr. Anna Darius Ishaku appreciated the Tekan-Ecwa Women Wing for finding her worthy of the award.
The Governor’s Wife expressed happiness saying that the little effort she had made in touching lives had been reckoned with.
She remarked that those who were trained by her foundation had made her proud by touching the lives of others in the society.
She therefore reiterated the resolve of her pet project, the Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba to touching the lives of the downtrodden in the State.
In his closing remarks, State Chairman of Tekan-Ecwa Bloc, Rev. Phillip Micah Doppah congratulated the Governor’s wife saying that the Award was a well deserved one to the First Lady of the State.
The Award was presented by Rev. Phillip Micah Doppah on behalf of National and State officials of Tekan-Ecwa.
