At Eid-El-Fitr, Gov. Ishaku Greets Muslims. Urges Peace and Tolerance

Taraba state citizens have been urged to continue tolerating each other and be one another’s keepers. Governor Darius Ishaku said this in his message to the Muslim faithful on the occasion of the 2017 Eid-el-Fitr. The governor, who congratulated Muslims on a successful completion of the fasting said the lesson of the Ramadan must be fully embraced.
Speaking through the Senior Special Assistant, Public Affairs, Emmanuel Bello, Governor Ishaku said the festive period is also a time for sober reflection on the virtues of forgiveness, kindness and good neighborliness. He said Taraba state is blessed to be disparate in nature where unity in diversity is its main philosophy.
He said, “I congratulate and greet our brothers and sisters who have observed the Ramadan which is a period of abstinence, sacrifice, and deep devotion. The goals of all faiths are to make us better human beings who love the Almighty and also love mankind. Today’s Sallah is thus a celebration of all we hold dear: mercy, hope, love, and respect for one another irrespective of our differences.”
Governor Ishaku who commended Muslims for working towards peace said he would continue to support such efforts. He noted that some people would seek to divide the citizens along sectarian lines but that tolerance is key to a healthy coexistence. He said, “this is a perfect day to recommit ourselves to things that bind us together. Incidentally, today’s Sallah is on a Sunday too as if God is sending a message of interfaith collaboration. Personally, I see how children play at school playgrounds not minding their faiths. Or a teacher imparting knowledge irrespective of how they worship. Or when a mother goes to her neighbor for salt not minding faith differences. I see how a trader would watch over the other’s ware while he or she has gone to pray. Our doctors or men in uniform working together to save lives irrespective of their beliefs. These are the beautiful examples that give me hope that we can live as one.”
He said, “we all have to come together, confront those who seek to divide us with hate rhetoric and speeches. Islam is a religion of peace as its tenets dictate. I’m proud of my own background which brought me early in contact with both faiths as I was growing up. Many Taraba citizens can attest to these relationships either as family members or friends. We must continue to build on this unique ties to deepen love, peace, and unity.”

Insecurity: Gov. Ishaku Urges Nigerians to Be Security Conscious.

Insecurity: Gov. Ishaku Urges Nigerians to Be Security Conscious.

gov-dariusWorried by incessant attacks and killings across the Country, Taraba Governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku yesterday called on Nigerians to be security conscious, as government and security agencies would not be everywhere all the time to protect them.

The Governor who urged Christians across the Country to rise up and defend themselves against terrorists before they are completely annihilated, made the call in Jalingo during an Interdenominational Church service organized by the Christians Association of Nigeria CAN, to celebrate the new year and to pray for victims of Southern Kaduna massacre and other victims of terrorism across the country.

According to Ishaku who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Mr. Anthony Jellason, the deliberate and systematic massacre of Christians in Southern Kaduna, the North East and other parts of the country by terrorists over the years has called for actions on the part of the people.

Ishaku said that the government can not be everywhere to defend people at all time and so the people should embrace their constitutional right of  self defense to save themselves from the evil clutches of fundamentalists.

“I was at the site of the mayhem in parts of Ardo Kola this morning and the level of destruction there is unimaginable. A few weeks ago, it was in Gassol, then Karim. We are all aware of what is going on in Southern Kaduna.

“The people must wake up from their slumber and defend themselves. You can’t just sit down and allow yourselves to be annihilated by other groups. You have a constitutional right to self defense and now is the time to use it. The government alone can not do it”, Ishaku said.

Meanwhile the State Chairman CAN, Rev. Dr.  Ben Ubeh in his message to the people called for prayers to be intensified for the people of Southern Kaduna and Christians all over the country who have been subjected to systematic attacks since 2009.

Rev. Ubeh, who accused the Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir El-Rufai of complicity in the killings in Southern Kaduna also noted that President Muhammadu Buhari’s indifference to the killings and destruction caused by Fulani herdsmen sends a very dangerous signal that needs to be checked urgently.

He advised the people to “match their prayers with actions” as “faith is not only theoretical but also practical and requires action for full manifestation”, noting angels can not come down from heaven to fight for the people.

The thanksgiving service featured special prayers of thanksgiving and various intentions including prayers for a sense of direction for the President, prayers against bribery and corruption and for victims of killings in Southern Kaduna, Taraba and other parts of the Country.
