


Palliative-Care: Gov. Agbu Kefas Approves Constitution of Committee
His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr. Agbu Kefas has approved the constitution of the Taraba State Committee on Palliatives-Care to cushion effects of hardships being experienced by the less privileged in Taraba State.
The Members of the Committee constituted pursuant to section 1 of the Executive Order No. 4 of 2023 are:

2. Representative of the Ministry of Finance – Member
3. Representative of the Ministry of Agricutture and Natural Resources – Member
4. Representative of the Ministry of Special Duties – Member

Press Release: 12 Hours Curfew Lifted With Immediate Effect
The State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas has directed that the 12 hours curfew in Karim town and its environs be lifted with immediate effect.
The Governor gave the directive on 8th August 2023 when he received the report of the Peace and Reconciliation Committee on the Karimjo Wurkum crisis headed by Alhaji Inuwa Bakari.
The Governor had on the 7th of July 2023 relaxed the 24-hour curfew by 12 hours having reviewed the security situation with the stakeholders of the affected communities.
While presenting the report, the Chairman assured the Governor that concerted peace-building efforts by the Committee have restored normalcy in the area, hence the need to lift the curfew.
Dr. Agbu Kefas expressed satisfaction with the return of peace to the area and the readiness of people to now live in harmony with one another
The Governor also directed that the Peace Committee metamorphosed into a resettlement committee to oversee the distribution of relief materials to Internally Displaced Persons IDPs because of the conflict.
It would be recalled that the State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas on the second of July 2023 imposed a 24-hour curfew in the area as a result communal feud between the Karimjo and Wurkum communities over chieftaincy matters.

Newly Appointed Commissioners’ Swearing-In Ceremony – CPS
The swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed Commissioners has been set for July 18, 2023, at 11 a.m., according to the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor, Yusuf Sanda. The ceremony will take place at the Government House Exco Chambers.
The Executive Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas will preside over the eagerly awaited ceremony. The honour of giving the newly appointed Commissioners their oath of office has been bestowed upon Honourable Justice Joel Filibus Agya, the State’s Acting Chief Judge.
It is important to note that the Taraba State House of Assembly recently thoroughly reviewed the list of commissioners that had been provided by the Executive Arm along with a description of each one’s responsibilities. The House of Assembly gave its unanimous approval following careful examination, reiterating the nominees’ qualifications and fitness.
All Commissioners-designate, Permanent Secretaries, and other distinguished government officials are to take a seat by 10:30 a.m.

Gov. Agbu Kefas Bans Issuing Of Receipts For Timber Products and Mining Activities
The Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas has banned the issuing of receipts for all timber products and mining activities by any Ministry, Department, or Agency.
This was contained in a press release signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Yusuf Sanda.
It states that the affected MDAs should please note and comply, accordingly.

Breaking News: Governor Agbu Kefas Declares 24-Hour Curfew in Karim Town
In response to the escalating communal conflicts in certain areas of Karim Lamido Local Government Area (LGA), the Executive Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has announced an immediate 24-hour curfew, effective from July 2nd, 2023.
The declaration came through a press release issued by Yusuf Sanda, the Chief Press Secretary to the Executive Governor.
The primary objective of the curfew is to restore peace and ensure the safety of residents in Karim town and its surrounding areas. The recent upsurge in communal tensions necessitated this decisive action to prevent further violence and protect the lives and property of the people.
To enforce the curfew, security agencies have been given strict instructions to ensure compliance. Any individual or group found violating the order will face legal consequences in accordance with the law.
Governor Agbu Kefas urges all ward heads, village heads, traditional rulers, and stakeholders in Karim Lamido LGA to be aware of this development and cooperate fully. Their cooperation and support are crucial in maintaining peace and order during this period of unrest.
The recent announcement by His Excellency Dr. Agbu Kefas, Governor of Taraba State, regarding the provision of free Basic Education, has yielded remarkable outcomes within a short span. The surge in new enrollments witnessed in our primary and secondary schools over the past ten working days has necessitated immediate action. Following consultations with His Excellency, the following measures have been approved:
1. ICT-Based Registration: Commencing this term, an ICT-based registration system will be introduced. This will apply to Teachers,andboth new and returning students. Ensuring that they are registered will guarantee the provision of essential school materials upon their arrival.
2. Provision of Uniforms and Educational Materials: Uniforms, shoes, socks, and books will be made available by January to support students in their pursuit of education.
3. Sponsorship for SS3 Students: In the coming year, the State Government will cover the examination fees for all SS3 students, enabling them to write both WAEC and NECO examinations. Exceptional students will be eligible for sponsorship and scholarships.
4.Mass Education Centers: Adult learners seeking new enrollment should be directed to the various Mass Education Centers, ensuring accessibility to education for all.
5. Optimizing School Facilities: Schools that have reached their maximum capacity in terms of facilities will implement a shifting system temporarily while additional buildings are provided to meet the increasing demand.
6. Enhanced Benefits for NYSC Members: As an emergency response to the education situation, His Excellency has approved significant allowances for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in Taraba State schools:
– An additional ten thousand naira will be added to their monthly allowance.
– A one-time payment of fifty thousand naira as a medical allowance.
– An accommodation allowance of twenty-five thousand naira per term, totaling seventy-five thousand naira for three terms.
7. Employment Opportunities: Exceptional Youth Corps members who distinguish themselves while serving in schools will be offered automatic employment opportunities.
To execute these initiatives, the Commissioner of Education has collaborated with the Commissioner of Youth and Sports to chart the way forward. The Commissioner of Youth and Sports is committed to ensuring the timely implementation of these new packages for Youth Corps members serving in our schools.
