The Taraba State Government has received with surprise news of the approval at a recent meeting of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, the award of contract for the reconstruction of Bali-Serti Federal road in Taraba State.
Ordinarily, this development should be a thing of joy for the government and people of the state except that it has given the wrong impression about the present state of the road and the work already done on it by the Taraba State Government on behalf of the Federal Government.
The Taraba State Government wishes to state categorically and for the avoidance of doubt, that this portion of the road (Bali-Serti totalling 115 Kilomtres) leading to Gembu, had earlier been awarded to P.W Nigeria Ltd and reconstructed through the initiative and funding by the Taraba State Government. Only a few bridges on the road remain to be completely fixed.
We also wish to remind the Federal Government that Taraba State is yet to be fully refunded the money it expended on this portion of the road project.
The award of a fresh contract for the same project by FEC is not only an unnecessary duplication of effort but also creates the wrong and misleading impression.
We wish to, therefore, suggest that Taraba State Government be paid its outstanding balance on the portion of the project it has done and allowed to complete the remaining job on the bridges while the Federal Government should embark on the second phase of the road from Serti to Gembu (another 115 kilometres), headquarters of Sarduana Local Government.
The Taraba State Government wishes to thank the Federal Government for the interest it has shown in this road project and implores it to do everything possible to expedite action on it because it is crucial to the implementation of the Mambilla Hydro Electricity project.

His Excellency, Arc Darius Dickson Ishaku, Executive Governor of Taraba State has received with shock news of the dastardly murder of Emmanuel Bileya, a Pastor of the CRC-N Church, Mararaba, Donga LGA, and his wife, Juliana.
Both of them were reportedly attacked by militia men and killed while working on their farm in Mararaba.
Gov. Ishaku condemned the killings as wicked and inhuman. He said killings of this nature have happened too often recently in Southern Taraba communities and described this situation as unhelpful to the on-going efforts of the government to achieve lasting peace among communities in the area.
He expressed sympathy with the surviving members of Pastor Bileya’s immediate and extended families as well as pastors and members of CRC-N in Mararaba where he served until his death.

The Taraba State deputy governor, Engr. Haruna Manu has noted with dismay the smear campaign being orchestrated, especially in the social media by some mischievous persons that Governor Darius Ishaku should handover to him as acting governor.
This was disclosed in a Press Statement signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Lawal Sani Kona.
According to the PS, Deputy Governor Manu has dissociated himself from such agitators and condemned their actions in the strongest possible terms.
The Statement noted that Engr. Manu was nominated by Governor Darius Ishaku to serve as his deputy governor in 2015 of which he served with all sense of humility and loyalty.
“Governor Ishaku also in his own generosity of spirit deemed it convenient to carry Engr. Manu along into the second term in 2019.”
“It is therefore, reasonably clear to all that deputy governor Manu enjoys the confidence of his boss and has followed through as a loyal subordinate which many adversaries of the administration are not happy with.”
“The unwarranted call by these mischief-makers is no doubt a ploy to cause disaffection within the administration in order to score cheap political goal. Their plans to instigate mistrust within the polity will definitely fail.”
“His Excellency, Governor Darius Ishaku has been discharging the responsibilities of his office creditably well.”
“Just yesterday, he hosted the inaugural sensitization meeting of the Mambilla hydroelectric power project and was also recently at the World Bank regional office where he sought the Bank’s assistance in the areas of development projects and programmes for Taraba State.”
“The strides recorded by the Ishaku administration are enormous.”
“These appreciable developments of various types across different sectors in the state are dividends of democracy that Tarabans will continue to enjoy under the rescue mission of Governor Darius Ishaku.”
“Rabble-rousers must therefore desist from attempting to distract the leadership or inflame the emotions of the good people of Taraba state.”
