It is unfortunate that a normal disciplinary action taken against a recalcitrant student of the Taraba State University is generating unnecessary controversy on social media.
Our information is that one Joseph Israel, a student of Taraba State University had his admission cancelled for refusing to complete admission formalities as required by the laws of the university.
Rather than seek to confirm from the University if the student obeyed the University’s rules on admission or not, we have only seen an attempt to turn the disobedient student into a hero by dragging His Excellency, the Governor of Taraba State, Arc. Darius Ishaku into an issue which, obviously, has nothing to do with him.
We reject such dubious and fraudulent attempt to seek relevance and sympathy.
I wish to state for the records, that Governor Ishaku is not aware that Joseph Israel has been a critic of his administration.
Secondly, the Governor is not against being criticized by his subjects because he sees criticism as a tonic for good governance if done in good faith. Therefore, he would not, and did not, ask for the expulsion of Joseph Israel or any student for that matter, for criticizing his administration.
Governor Ishaku, therefore, has nothing to do with the expulsion of Joseph Israel and would not want his name dragged into a matter as insignificant as the misdemeanor of 100 level student.
The Governor is too busy to pay attention to what a 100 level student is doing with his phone on the internet.

Taraba State Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has commiserated with the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo over the murder of Rev. Father David Tanko by a militia group.
This was contained in a Press Release signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Abu.
Governor Ishaku said it is an unfortunate twist of fate that Father Tanko died in the circumstances he did – a victim of the crisis in which he was playing an active role as a peacemaker.
The governor urged the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Jalingo, The Most Reverend Charles Hammawa and the entire Catholic faithful in the Diocese to take solace in the fact that Father Tanko died in pursuit of peace which is the most critical but elusive need of the state and the country today. He said posterity will remember Father Tanko very kindly whenever the history of the Tiv/Jukun crisis is written.
Governor Ishaku urged the Catholic Church and other stakeholders in the state not to be discouraged by the murder of Rev. Tanko but rather to continue to support on-going efforts by his administration to end the crisis.
He requested the Catholic Church and other churches in the state to continue to pray for the resolution of the crisis and for peace generally in Taraba State.
He urged security agencies in the state to quickly resolve the riddle of the murder of Father Tanko and to ensure that those found culpable are made to face the full wrath of the law.

The attention of His Excellency, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has been drawn to the claims by Hamisu Bala Wadume, a kidnap suspect currently under arrest, to the effect that he duped him (the Governor) of Six Million Naira during his inglorious reign as kidnapper.
This was contained in a Press Statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Abu.
The media aide wish to state categorically that Gov. Ishaku was never a victim of Wadume’s duplicity and never lost money to his antics.
He urged the general public to discard and disregard Wadume’s confessions on the alleged defrauding of Gov. Ishaku as the rantings of a drowning criminal.
“Governor Ishaku has never met the kidnap suspect and would not even recognise him if they were to meet today.”
“Governor Ishaku would like to use this opportunity to commend security agencies for promptly arresting Wadume who is the reason behind the dastardly murder of three police officers and one other person in Ibi earlier this month.”
He urged the security agencies to expand their dragnet to all the nooks and corners of Taraba State where the accomplices of Wadume and other criminal gangs may still be hiding to arrest them and bring them to book.
I have noticed that there is an orchestrated effort to tarnish the image and reputation of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku and Retired General TY Danjuma, elder statesman and an eminent indegene of Taraba State by a certain group of Tiv people over the current Tiv/Jukun crisis.
In a recent press statement, a group known as Tiv Youth Council made sweeping and frivolous allegations against these two eminent personalities to the effect that they are fueling the Tiv/Jukun crisis.
The statement is completely false and deserves no better treatment other than to be thrown into the dustbin. It is completely hollow as it contains nothing to support the grave and wicked allegations made against these eminent Jukun personalities.
The intention of the group, clearly, is to seek public sympathy by falsely accusing these patriots of complicity in the crisis for no reason other than that they are Jukun. It is blackmail in its raw manifestation.
This attitude is unhelpful to the crisis.
Gov. Ishaku has always been in the forefront of all the efforts to end the crisis. And so is General Danjuma who has always condemned crises and killings in the state and openly supported efforts of government to ensure peace.
In the past two years, Gov Ishaku visited these Tiv/Jukun communities more than four times to preach peace and to encourage the warring factions to sheat the sword. These he did most of the time jointly with his Benue State counterpart, Samuel Ortom.
Their Deputies also did same more than five times at their behest during the same period.
The present situation in the Taraba,/Benue borders calls for honest commitment to the quest for peace. It does not help to play the Ostrich as the Tiv Youth Council has elected to do by pointing accusing fingers at innocent people.
All the critical stakeholders must now join the ongoing efforts by the Taraba and Benue state governments to restore peace to the affected areas.
