The story published in The Guardian newspaper edition of Thursday April 2, 2020 claiming that Taraba State now has one positive case of Coronavirus infection is false.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Mr. Bala Dan Abu today 3rd April 2020 in Jalingo.
Mr. Bala Abu said that the management of the newspaper has accordingly acknowledged its mistake and has today (April 3, 2020) published a retraction and reemphasized that Taraba State, as at today, has NO case of Coronavirus virus infection.
“I wish to use this medium to urge the general public to disregard the falsehood published earlier by The Guardian as well as the reactions that have trailed it on social media.”
“The administration of Gov. Darius Dickson Ishaku has worked very hard to achieve this zero-infection figure. We give credit for this to Almighty God and the people of the state for cooperating with the administration on this very critical issue.”
The media aide to the governor encouraged the public to continue to adhere to the rules of personal hygiene and social distancing and to avoid handshakes as the government is doing everything possible to mitigate the pains of the lockdown which begins at 11pm today in the state.
Together we shall work to keep Coronavirus out of Taraba State.

The Executive Governor of Taraba state, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku has reaffirmed the commitment of his administration in making sure the people of Taraba are protected from the pandemic caused by the ravaging Coronavirus across the world and in Nigeria presently.
Governor Ishaku made the reaffirmation via his official Facebook account today 24th March 2020.
“I want the good people of Taraba to know, there’s no single report of anyone affected with the CoronaVirus in our State, as I see it circulating on some Social Media Platforms today.”
“I want to firmly assure all Tarabans that we have been, and will continue to work hard, putting machineries in place to ensure all Tarabans are covered in all areas and at all levels.”
“I would like to remind you of some symptoms of the infection which include: Fever, sore throat, difficulty in breathing, catarrh or frequent sneezing.”
“Any citizen with these symptoms should self-isolate and invite our Emergency Response Team for assessment and follow-up. It will be treated confidentially.”
“I urge the good people of Taraba, most importantly the gentlemen of the press to exercise a high level of professionalism in their patterns of reporting this Global pandemic. It’s not profitable in any way to politicize reports, causing panic among the citizens.”
“This disease has no political coloration. The pandemic does not spare those to be infected along political lines; therefore, we should put aside our political and religious affiliations and tackle this issue as an existential threat.”
“Together we can, together is easier.”
“God bless Taraba State, God Bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
It could be recalled that Governor Ishaku yesterday approved the composition of a technical committee to help control and sensitise the good people of Taraba state on the outbreak of the Coronavirus of which the committee is headed by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Innocent Vakai as Chairman.
