Press Release: Taraba State Government Lifts Curfew Imposed on Jalingo and Wukari LGAs

The Taraba State Government has lifted the curfew imposed on Jalingo, the state capital and Wukari local government area of the state following the thoughtless looting of government and individual property that followed the END SARS protests.

This was contained in a press release signed by Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on New Media, Musleem Aruwa and dated 9th November 2020.

It states that the deputy governor, Engr. Haruna Manu said after a careful review of the security situation in the state, especially the affected areas, government is convinced that normalcy has been restored.

It states that the state government appreciates the level of adherence to government directives by the peace-loving people of Taraba and the security agencies for their professionalism in handling the unpleasant development.

It states that Government will therefore continue to adopt new measures that can ensure lasting peace in the state.

Press Release: Curfew Imposed on Jalingo and Wukari Relaxed by Government

The Taraba state government has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on Jalingo, the state capital and Wukari local government area.

This was disclosed in a press release signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on New Media, Musleem Aruwa.

It states that the state deputy governor, His Excellency, Engr. Haruna Manu said the curfew now runs from 6:00pm to 7:00am until further notice.

It states that Government will continue to monitor the situation until normalcy is restored completely and law-abiding citizens can go about their legitimate businesses as government and other security agencies have adopted tougher safeguards to protect lives and property.

However, persons with useful information on the criminal elements in our midst, especially those involved in the recent looting should kindly tip the security agencies nearest to them.

Similarly, those who took part in the shameful looting of public and private property should return such items to their ward heads, Village/Districts heads or the local government chairmen as these categories of leaders have been directed to collate these looted items for safekeeping so that they can be returned to government and other private businesses affected.

Taraba Government Declares 32Hours Curfew On Jalingo

Following certain bad happenings in the state and around the country, the government has decided to impose a curfew on Jalingo, the state capital to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

This was disclosed in a broadcast by the Deputy Governor, Engr. Haruna Manu on the 24th October 2020.

The government stated that the curfew will run from 11pm on Saturday 24th October, 2020 to 8am on Monday 26th October, 2020 as government will thereafter review the situation.

Part of his speech reads thus;

“At about 5pm in the evening of today, Saturday, the 24th day of October 2020, vandals forced their way into government warehouses and looted essential commodities meant for distribution as palliatives in the state.

“Similarly, troublemakers are continuing to lay siege on the streets of the state capital which informed government’s decision to impose the curfew to stop the situation from degenerating into mayhem.

“As a responsible government, this step has become necessary to protect lives and properties of our dear people.

“The security agencies have been directed to be extra vigilant and stop trouble makers from seizing the opportunity to cause further destructions.

“This, they must do within the confines of the law and by protecting the human rights of our people.

“Let me specifically appeal to our teeming youths to be law abiding so that their disposition can help government tame the hoodlums perpetuating this breach of public
peace.”

He calls on all law-abiding citizens to remain calm and not panic as their security is guaranteed.

Gov. Ishaku Relapses Curfew from 9pm to 6am

After a review of the security situation in parts of Jalingo and Ardo Kola Local Government Areas of Taraba State which experienced crisis recently, His Excellency, Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has approved that the current curfew imposed on Jalingo town and other affected areas should now start from 9pm and end at 6am daily until further notice. This means a three-hour reduction in the time previously covered by the curfew.

Governor Ishaku also ordered a ban on the movement of Keke NAPEP in all the areas covered by the curfew between 8pm and 6pm daily until further notice.

He directed security agencies in the state to ensure strict enforcement of these new directives on security in the state.
