Wukari United Captain Lifts Trophy in Excitement

The Unity football competition which was one of the events marking the end of year activity of the governor was played at the Rimi football pitch in Takum LGA of Taraba state.

People from Wukari and Kurmi LGAs and also neighbouring villages, trooped into Takum LGA to show support for the team of their choice as Wukari United played against Kurmi.

The match which ended in a goalless draw after the 90minutes stipulated time had to go into a penalty shootout.

Wukari United who played with 2 players short against a full squad of Kurmi due to cautioning by the referee that resulted in sending off of their 2 players, emerged winner of the tightly contested competition.

The Governor, speaking at the presentation of the trophy to the winner (Wukari United), congratulated both teams for a well-contested match. 

He stressed to the people what peace can bring by saying it is for the peace we have that we have enjoyed this football match.

The governor implored them to keep sustaining the peace and presented the trophy to the winner of the competition, Wukari United.

The match started around 4:30 pm and was one of the interesting ones being played in recent times in the state.

Kurmi lost out in the penalty shootout as Wukari United scored 4 goals to win the 2016 Unity football competition trophy.

Cash prices were also giving to the officials of the tournament.
