
Gunmen kill Couple in Taraba
Unknown gunmen suspected to be assassins in the early hours of Tuesday killed a man and his wife in Wukari town in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The incident which threw the people of the town into deep shock came less than 24 hours after Fulani militia invaded a Catholic Seminary in Jalingo the state capital and shot a priest.
Chairman of Wukari LGA, Hon. Daniel Adi confirmed the incident to our correspondent in a telephone interview. The Council Chairman said the incident occurred around 12:45 am when gunmen invaded the house of the deceased, killing the husband and his wife, but spared the life of their two-year-old baby.
“We don’t know the reason for the attack, but the gunmen killed the man and his wife without carrying a single thing from their house.
“We are still investigating the situation, we don’t know whether they are armed robbers, assassins or terrorism in disguise. But investigations will reveal their identity,” he said.
A resident of Wukari, Mr. Angyu Sabo told our correspondent that the incident happened few meters away from the office of Nigeria Prison Service in Wukari along Wukari – Ibi road. Sabo who said the incident has thrown the entire town into deep shock and fear called for reinforcement of security personnel to help curb crime in the area.
As at the time of filing this report the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP David Misal said he was yet to receive briefing on the issue.
